He was shot breaking through the door!
He wasn’t shot in the back. The dad neutralized the threat. Who knows what he was armed with?

You're misunderstanding me. They're actively trying to destroy the family. Specifically his sister.

I did, but my point still stands as I can relate there too. My friends suicide was driven by his ex girlfriend who literally drove him crazy (there’s lots of other details involved that I won’t go into here because his family probably reads this board). I blamed the girl for over a decade. I wanted her to suffer in every way imaginable. I hoped and prayed that she’d lay her head down at night every night for the rest of her life and see his dead face when she closed her eyes. I wanted her destroyed both mentally and physically. I wanted only the worst for her.

Years and years later I finally matured and accepted the fact that he made the decision to do what he did. Sure, his judgement was clouded by insanity spurred on by her but still, I’m a firm believer in the saying “there are no victims - only volunteers”. He made the decision to do what he did and only him - not her. In my heart I have forgiven her and I truly am sooo much better for it. A huge weight lifted when I forgave her after lots of prayer over it. In an odd way the whole situation made me grow into a better person in the long run.

He was shot in the back twice

I don’t necessarily disagree with shooting him. Like I said, it got rid of a threat that likely would’ve continued

And? The intruder broke down the door and was shot when he stepped foot into the home. Those shots were so fast that I doubt the father realized the intruder had turned.

I really enjoyed when the kids feet flopped that last time.

Good shoot to me.

If you're committing a home invasion by breaking down the door, you're a contestant for the room temperature challenge.

I would’ve told the kid that I’ve called the police and if he busted in I was going to I’m going to shoot him. I don’t like the idea of blasting some unarmed kid who was fricked in the head over relationship bullshite.

It’s possible but I didn’t get the sense that door was “broken down”—I feel he shot through the door

ETA: rewatched and the door isn’t breached at all which you try to base your argument on

And so—so I feel it wasn’t reasonable (that’s a legal standard) to continue shooting once the threat was removed after the first shot and he was no longer a threat

I’m on board with shooting the guy but yes, you have a legit point there. Still, I’m risking that in order to protect my family if I feel they are in legit danger.

Also, I think if put in that position, my adrenaline would be racing so fast that after pulling the trigger once, I don’t know if I’d be able to be aware enough to stop until the threat was either completely down or far enough away that I wouldn’t feel they’re a threat anymore. We don’t know how we’d react until we’re put into that position. Easy for us to say behind a keyboard that he shot too many times but my kids and wife come first, not that frickup who just kicked my door in.

When someone tries to break your front door down, he has some damn bad intentions. He left that punk flopping in the driveway!

For sure. He may have had some serious issues the family knew about (prior DV), and I’d be scared for my daughter as well if I thought he’d come back. At that point I may make sure he went down as well, just hard to say without being in that position

It isn't my argument. The fact comes from the grand jury report. The intruder broke through the door and was shot as he stepped into the home.

The guy was beating on the door several times with his whole body weight and he would have made it through in a few more hits.

Other posters are right, if you turn the audio way up you here a voice say "Don't do it"

Being in fear for ones life is part of the "reasonable standard".

And once you engage you shoot until the threat is fully neutralized. You don't shoot once and then say to the perp, "You had enough?"

This is basic training even the lowest level county sheriff gets regarding engagement.

As a father of a girl these videos resonate.

In reality, none of us here could do a week in a real prison. With that being said, we all better respond the same way with zero concern for a grand jury. We have one purpose in life and that is to protect our wives and children.

I don't think anyone here is a bloodthirsty psycho looking for something like this but we better be ready.

Not sure what you mean my dude. Seems like he fired through the door to stop his advance.

Good information thanks for sharing.

Another point is all the smoke from the muzzle didn't travel through a bullet hole in the closed door.

While the camera doesn't show it the door has to be open quite a bit.
