Herbstreit predicts the SEC's biggest sleeper: LSU

“Look out for poor ol’ LSU,” Herbstreit said during a segment with Rece Davis and Chris “The Bear” Fallica. “Brian Kelly’s kind of been made fun of on social media. People tend to forget, Brian Kelly can coach, and LSU never short of athletes, and Bear you put that combination together, I’m not saying they’re going to win the SEC. I’m just saying everybody’s talking about Mississippi State and Ole Miss or Arkansas, and we know about A&M and Alabama. But in the West, be careful Bear, you’re not fond of LSU, but look out for the Tigers.”
quote:
“When he had the better team at Notre Dame, he won games,” Fallica said. “So he couldn’t beat Clemson and Alabama, who can? I think LSU is going to be sneaky good this year as well.”
Fallica went on to say that LSU could be the 3rd best SEC team.

We’re going to surprise some people this year.

We are certainly the most "underrated" SEC team, for whatever that's worth.
Between Ole Miss, Arkansas, and Mississippi State, you know 2 of them are only going to be .500 in SEC play like last year. Hell even A&M was only .500. Those teams just aren't better than us.

I've said it other times on here, but LSU is second only to Georgia in the amount of players drafted in the last two NFL drafts. That's not to say the talent on this team is at a 2019 level...but it's not at the bottom of the freaking SEC either like many seem to think. At worst, LSU is still in the top 1/3 of the SEC in terms of talent.
Now that LSU has a proven, competent, HC and coaching staff as opposed to the team mascot coach pretending to be a HC with a collection of coordinators either no one else wanted (2020)or no one else thought could be coordinators (2021), the odds of maximizing that talent significantly increase.
It is one thing to lose because you simply don't have enough great players to compete. That hasn't been LSU's problem. The problem was that the success of 2019 tricked Ed in to believing he actually knew what he was doing in terms of the on-field approach.
Ole Miss went 3-21 in Ed's three years as HC. Still, he was able to get talent. Which is why it was possible for Houston Nutt to take a 3-9 (0-8) Ole Miss team in 2007 and turn them into a 9-4 (5-3) team in 2008 that beat eventual national champion Florida, came within one drive of beating then #2 Alabama, and crush LSU by 18 points. That talent actually had someone who knew what the hell he was doing directing it.
The SINGLE BIGGEST ANCHOR holding LSU back over the last two years is gone. So tell me why LSU shouldn't be competitive this season with one of the winningest active HC's in the game?

Makes me laugh how A&M is suddenly being mentioned in the same breath as Bama and Georgia for no apparent reason

I’m in.
SEC gets three teams in the CFP this year and Texas A&M goes to the Texas Bowl! Why not.
