my mother passed last year at 93, lived by herself until right before Covid, she bought a smaller house with less yard to maintain after my dad died and there was a sizable tree that was planted outside of the kitchen window that died and there was a pretty big stump left, at 91 she would go outside every morning with a sharp shooter, a garden spade and a hammer and hack away at that stump until it was completely gone and the grass had grown over it, I'm such a puss compared to my parents I would have probably rented a backhoe to dig that sucker up

That’s awesome. They were under appreciated for so long for the work they did during WWII. Learned a lot about them in a history course in undergrad.

Depending on her service with them, H.R. 4336 allowed some of those active pilots to be buried in Arlington and she could be eligible.

I lost my grandfather last week. He was the last of my grandparents, the last of his siblings, and the last of some really great men in my life. He lived to 91 and was able to see many of his great grandchildren graduate high school. Life was hard on that generation, but they found joy and success despite the hardships.

I'll miss him for sure. Crappy fishing will never be the same without him.

Sorry for the loss of your grandma. You described a great lady.

My paternal grandmother is my only remaining one, and the one that I am by far closest to than any of my others. My maternal grandmother was great, but died back in 2001, and I never really knew either of my grandfathers well (maternal died when I was like 5 and my paternal one was never in my life and was estranged from the family before I was born).

But my Granny is awesome. She is 98 and pretty damn healthy and independent. She can't hear for shite, but her mind is still there and she's still pretty sharp/witty. I know that when she goes, I am not gonna handle it well at all. It's gonna be super hard on me. That woman played with me on the floor for hours on end growing up. Typing this all out now, I need to go visit her again soon.

Lost my grandmother 2 years ago at 97. I think about her just about everyday. Sadly, there are few of that generation left. Great Depression and WWII made them self sufficient and tough. Sorry for your loss.

Grandparents are the best... My last grandparent passed in 2004. My cousin was also serving as pall bearer with me. He looked at her closed casket and said "Everything that is good in me came from that woman".

I think many of us feel that way about our grandparents.

Sorry for your loss bro

Truly sorry to hear this ... I have one remaining grandparent and she's 100. I have a feeling it won't be long before she's gone .. was just saying this morning that I need to go and visit, for ME not her as she won't even remember me but that's ok.

It's said all of the time, but they really don't make people like they used to. I've still got my grandparents but dread the day when they are all gone.

Lost my last grandparent last month. It's surreal but I feel lucky that I got to know 3 of the 4. (My grandfather died when my dad was 16). What made me the most sad was when I got to thinking how lucky I was to have at least one of them for 46 years and knowing that my kids will likely not have that long to know their grandparents.
