Ok OT I need your help. I am in an English class that requires a research paper. It will be based on a novel of my choosing from a list that the professor provided. There are multiple "classics" on this list. I am going to list a few that I am interested in and would like to know which you would choose.
The Red Badge of Courage - Stephen Crane
The Kite Runner - Khaled Hosseini
For Whom the Bell Tolls - Ernest Hemingway
Slaughterhouse-Five - Kurt Vonnegut Jr
Great Expectations - Charles Dickens

Great book. And has a follow up book as well but with different set of characters.

Let's see the full list, not just the ones you have interest in.

I would say For Whom the Bell Tolls, but that might be a popular pick by everyone else and mean your paper needs to be a lot better to stand out.
I'd try pick a book that not many others would be writing a paper on

This one. Read it in the 9th grade, and it opened my eyes to the world of book reading.

Professor? What grade level is this?

Also would be helpful to know what the research paper has to focus on? Content of the book itself? It’s production and any controversies surrounding it?

Kite runner is arse.
I'd pick slaughterhouse 5. Great American classic.

We had to read 3 of these like freshman year of high school. Is this college reading?

Are you writing this for your high school son?

From that list, I would choose:
or
for the combination of them being less likely to be chosen by several others and the fact that the stories would be easier to produce an original take from.
