it's a short term solution, and not meant to be for whole home...if power is out for a substantial time period, I am getting out of dodge...

Your house painter is smart!

2 Tesla power wall batteries(standard order on tesla website): $18,500, 2 x 13.5 kwh.(plus you have to buy the roof panels as well, which is an additional 40k) Comes out to $685/kwh

1 F-150 Lightning extended range XLT: $81,000, 131 kwh. Comes out to $618/kwh and like I said.... it doubles as a truck :D

How do you charge the truck once it dies and the power is out?

the same as any other UPS system. You wait for power to come back on. Batteries are not designed as permanent backup power. They are designed to provide backup power for only a limited amount of time. That is known to anyone getting batteries as a stand alone backup power source.
