I've wondered if the philosophy was just to load up on lefties because you can find righties later in the process or through other procurement avenues, but lefties are a more scarce resource.
But it's also a combo of both staffs efforts. Only 2 of the LHPs committed to Jay (Johnson and Burch). The others were on board with the old staff.
ETA: Jake Brown is the real fricking deal though and I really hope we hold onto him.

He's been tearing it up, if he gets that velocity up he could really move up the boards. I think he still kind of tops out in low 90s for now though.

I like the style of LHP in the 2 groups. Not burning up the radar gun (fingers crossed), but stiff, good command, multiple pitches, polished. Johnson is really the only outside of that mold. Bc he can run it up there is going to be the main reason that he's more of a draft risk than the rest, so let's hope the rest wait for Wes to pump up the velo.

I have a theory on this. Cain was a good recruiter but seemed over his head in roster management. Mainieri should have been helping Cain with this but he wasn't. I know this because in an interview with Mainieri, Paul wasn't even sure how many lefties we had in our next class.
Cain then blundered with lefties on the roster and went into panick mode. He then specifically targeted lefties in the future classes.

Burch is interesting. La. kid and according to that ranking, he is lower ranked. Jay must like something about him.

i actually hope he doesnt start running up to 95 cause then he will be drafted too high. Great kid though and great family.
If Landon Victorian keeps progressing, i doubt anyone gets him to campus. looking to be first round pick right now heading into junior year.
as far as the early kids, work ethic is the biggest thing that cant be projected. I dont think many here understand how big of a game changer lifting heavy and correctly is and how much adding weight is a complete game changer.
we need to be looking for this kids that have tons of talent, but also those that prepare like a professional and perform the following on their owni.e
-minimum of 3 metric driven weight lifting sessions per week
-8-10hours of sleep every night
-4 hours of individual skill work outside practice
-1000 calories before 9am
-maintains 3.5 or higher gpa
those are the guys who are going to seperate themselves and if they are doign the above, you dont have to worry about the parents. I say that because often it is the parents that have the dream of college ball, not the kid. if they are committed to the above then they will have shown they are committed as a player and have been for a while. In college you will essentially be forced to do those things if you want to play anyways. Those that get an early start shows great parenting.
