I’ll say that a strong, bright light when unexpected would be very disorienting on the receiving end. Almost instinct to cover your eyes when someone shines it at you.

Is your house completely dark?
Our city put in these god awful street lights that I want to shoot out, they shine enough light that I can wake up and walk around my house just fine with no light. enough comes through windows, even ones with blinds

Most modern homes have enough appliances, electronics and misc gizmos that have various lights on them even when off that will give off enough light to navigate space that you are already familiar with...
