between 1.5" to 2". Go lower if you got a reel.

I have mine on 2.75” on my riding mower…..Meyer 252 zoysia

2 inch mowed twice a week. If you can only mow once a week you need to bag to avoid thatch and fungal issues.

Lots of varying opinions on this one. I mow mine with a rotary mower at 1.75”.
Basically anything under 2.5”-3” is fine for the grass.
If you have a bumpy, uneven lawn, higher is better. If it’s smooth as glass, you can train it as low as you want.
Rotary mowers are gonna have a limit around 1.5”-2”. Reel mowers can cut it shorter.
Shorter means you’ll have to cut more often and not quite as stress tolerant (heat, drought, etc).

Higher will help with weeds.

5/8”
Who downvotes 5/8”? Should it have been in decimal? I tried to go shorter but I have a few spots where it wouldn’t look good that short. It’s hard as frick to keep up right now with the rain and just finding time. Need a sharpening and just have to wait a few months. John Deere 220b.
To me September and October is peak pretty for my zoysia. Good color and easier to maintain.

1.5 inches. Lower mower height on Bermuda and zoysia causes lateral growth. Thicker lawns choke out weeds

I believe I’ve been cutting my new zoysia sod (Empire variety)a bit too high (~3”). I’ve noticed it’s yellowing on the lower part of the grass blades. Assuming mowing height is the cause?

That’s part of my problem too
Have you dethatched?

I mean, I can’t imagine it needs to be dethatched; it was just planted in the spring.

My zoysia looks like crap until I fertilize every July. Then it us a carpet. I mow at 2 w a rotary. If I had a reel I’d mow at 1 inch.

You should apply an enzyme dethatcher twice a year
