I believe that Henry LeBoyd was the first black athlete to pitch for LSU. It was in the late 60 s I think. Anyway, if you are only talking football Mike Williams is probably right, and Collis Temple is in there too.

Great player back in the day. From Covington and probably the best to come out of that paper mill smell. Just kidding. Great pro as well...

I believe Mike Williams was from Covington. He was a great DB for LSU. He saved a game vs Florida by running down Nat Moore and Tackling him at the 1 yard line on a soaking wet field in Gainesville on what I think was the last play of the game.
Nat Moore was very fast.

It wasn't the last play of the game. It was in the middle of the second quarter but I agree that it saved the game.

You should amend your comment to say "the first black FOOTBALL player to play for us". Do you not count baseball where Henry LeBoyd was the first black to play for LSU

So, they already honored the 50 yr anniversary of LSU Football's first black player, Lora Hinton, last November (11/12/21) with an induction to LSU HOF. No need to do it again a yr later for a different player.. /thread.

quote:

Lora Hinton, the first African-American football player at LSU, is a member of the 2021 LSU Athletics Hall of Fame induction class and will be formally enshrined tonight at the Manship Theatre in downtown Baton Rouge.
There are very few people in LSU history with a resume’ like former football player and Athletics Hall of Fame inductee Lora Hinton. As an 18-year-old in the fall of 1971, he made the courageous decision to attend LSU and become the first African-American football player in program history.

how about we just move forward as a colorblind society and do our thing. Black, white, green, or blue -- it doesn't matter to the vast majority of Americans. Constantly bringing it up only works to drag us backwards.
