Because they do not want to cure you. They only want to treat your symptoms.

Bristol Myers Squibb broke the mold with Tagamet in the 90s

Old School, pre-Tagamet: “now get out there, and research like hell, and find a drug that will cure a disease over a three week regimen”

New School, post Tagamet: “ now get out there, and research like hell, and find a drug that will alleviate symptoms if you take it every day for the rest of your life”

You humps poring pills down your face every day are getting worked.

Many are. Many are only tweaks on already existing meds.

Prilosec to Nexium

Claritin to Clarinex

Zyrtec to Xyzal.

There’s a difference in finding drugs of the same class that are better like generations of cephalosporins (antibiotic) and a minor tweak of a molecule to make a new patent.

Others went with combo meds. Americans are so fricking lazy they will o my take one huge pill.

Caduet …… I believe was Amlodipine combined with a Statin

Exforge ….. think it was a BP pill (some ARB) with a diuretic?

Can’t recall name but it was Motrin 800/Prilosec 20mgs. Charge $100’s instead of $00.01’s for two separate pills.

Pembrolizumab has completely changed how we treat lung cancers, and is useful in treating several other types of cancer. Nivolumab is an excellent drug as well. Both developed this century.

Realistically, cures are the “goal”, but the money is made in treating not curing patients.

There are some instances where there are legitimate gripes, such as with HIV cures/treatments.

Then you have people that think there is a silver billet cure for cancer. Fact is that you can’t cure “cancer”. You may be able to cure a particular type of cancer in very specific circumstances, but cancer is a random mutation (although sometimes triggered by something like HPV for example).

In the end, I find it hilarious though that free market knights will sit here and bitch about pharma companies focusing on their bottom line instead of what is best for society.

Rules for thee but not for me.
