I’m excited about the show. I think it’ll be a lot better than the new GOT show.

If it sucks, I won’t watch it. Nothing will be lost other than Bezos’ money. I can still watch PJ’s LOTR whenever I want to.

Just got all caught up on this jewel of a thread.

As someone that read Tolkien’s big three once, 20ish years ago, I’m excited to go back to that place, even if it’s tangential or not in any way a reproduction of the vision of my mind’s eye.

As someone with eleven years of marriage under my belt, I’m now wishing that I had found in my spouse someone that loves me as much as you love the Tolkien family. Lord knows there would certainly be more fellatio involved. I hope you one day find out what a boob feels like. Surely there’s someone for you over at theonering.net.

This trailer looks really good. I think it’s definitely something that Christopher Tolkien would be proud of.

I never said you were a racist, but that's the safe word you wanna use when people call you out.

Sammy directly called me and others this in the other thread.

quote:

Like a call to action for your crew. I said you have a problem with a black elf in this show and is your main reason for blasting it!

Honestly, I think it’s possible there were actually black elves. There were certainly black men in Tolkien’s universe, but none lived in Middle Earth. So maybe some branch of Elves went south after the Awakening and were indeed black and also passed into the West after the end of the Third Age.

Black dwarves and hobbits though? No way. We’re given a far more straight line in regards to them. We know exactly where they are from and it makes no fricking sense why a dwarf would be black given they live most of their lives underground.

I actually think you are a prejudice dummy, your post history more than proves that! But IMO being prejudice and racist are very different things. Racist is a term that has been hijacked by the media on both sides to fan the flames of hate in this country. You can be prejudice and not be a racist, you can't be a racist without being prejudice. So if you think I was calling you a racist. That's on you because I never did.

Go move to San Francisco, you entitled prick.

He hated Jackson’s movies. There’s no way in hell he’d like this.

The whole "herp, derp, you're a racist" criticism is the laziest, most brain dead thing that gets posted in threads like this. It's deflective, and projective from people who support an agenda of changing source materials for the sole reason of promoting racial diversity quotas. Maybe before accusing others of being racists, you look in the mirror first and come to the realization that you are the ones that support actual racism.

I love Middle Earth, and the stories told therein. Hobbits, Orcs, Elves, Dwarves, Numenorians, etc. I hope it’s a great show. Like I said, if it’s not, I haven’t lost anything.

The good news it’s such a great universe that I think this show is incapable of harming it, unlike say Star Wars.

Just because I disagree you on something I'm woke? I have varying opinions on different subjects. People who actually know me find I'm quite conservative about things that matter. FYI a fantasy TV series doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things

But since you clearly have the mental capacity of an 8yr old, and the hormonal range of a 13yr old emotional female. This is you're angry response over a conversation about a TV series you don't even care to watch.

You thinking I’m prejudiced when I bring up the basic lore and stating why certain things are impossible is why we think you are Woke. It’s either I agree with you, I’m ignorant, prejudiced, or in Sammy’s case racist. I shouldn’t have to defend myself for something some idiot writer and producer wrote when I simply cite the lore and know what Tolkien was going for.

And it’s just not me. Millions of people understand Tolkien’s world. We understand the themes, the mythos, and how Tolkien came to write this language and world. It’s why I’m calling Sammy a blatant liar being an actual fan and reading the books because if you had you’d know about Tolkien’s relationship with his son and how it’s intricately woven into the story. Like Sammy insulting Christopher saying he’s a money whore continuing to write and edit his father’s work, what do you think Tolkien meant in the end with the Red Book of the Westmarch? Tolkien wanted his son to continue to cement his work giving him his point blank blessing to do so.

I'll answer this, at least for my own reasons.

Wheel of Time was supposed to be a similar big production, although I really didn't care or know that much about it going in. I was extremely unimpressed by it;
it looked comparable to a CW, Xena, or SyFy production. Looks like it was filmed in a park somewhere. Costumes were bland, too new and clean, colors too bold, etc. Like someone was walking around with their Iphone recording at a Renaissance Festival, and decided to put a script to it. Nothing looked "authentic". The CGI was bad, the acting was weak, as a non-reader the plot was unfathomable to me. If I had to guess, they spent whatever money they had hiring an aging, vaguely unattractive known actress to give the show some cred.

I can not speak to the plot or acting for this yet. But the imagery is a hundred times better.

Regarding the whole "woke" issue... I was worried, especially after what Prime did with the Tom Clancy stuff. And Disney is pushing diversity, HBO is pushing sexual deviance, etc. But the last series I have watched and liked was The Terminal List, coincidentally on Prime. That's the least "woke" show I've seen in years. No hidden (or overt) messages, they just let them tell the story.
I hope we get similar here.
