There are still pretty thin spots on this roster at key positions like LB and DB. We are going through a massive cultural change, new systems on both sides of the ball, and we had like 40 scholarship players for the bowl game last year.

Saban took a fairly talented Bama team that was 10-2 2 years prior and went 6-6 his first year because he had to change everything. We're in a better position than that thanks to the transfer rules, but we need to pump the brakes.

I think 7-8 wins this year is fine, 9 is outstanding, anything more than that is well beyond what we should expect (but would be insane).

Year 2 the expectations start back at 10 wins a year and nothing less ever again.

Hell win 9 games at the very least this year. I could even see him upsetting bama! That would be fun as hell!

But what about the part where we just dominated the transfer portal and recruiting.
We dont know if we have the difference makers at safety, corner, LB, OL, RB, or QB at this time. Yes, we do have a roster. That is an improvement and as good as you can hope. If they perform is still a big question. We have a helluva schedule and with Ole Miss, Aggie and Arky and Tenn being games that will be tougher than normal, who knows.

I'll bet the coaching staff's expectations are very high, and they should be.
My expectations are to see a much better disciplined team,
a team that shows a little more pride than we saw later in the season.
If the staff gets improvement in both these areas, it will show up in the W column. I can live with a number a little less than 10.

You’re setting yourself up for failure. 7 wins is the floor.

Really? I read it and I feel our team will do better than expected.

where does our roster not match up

The entire secondary is a question mark. We have no good tight ends. We are starting a "new" qb with a new playbook and a true freshman at left tackle. As of today, we don't have a center.

Add in no real linebackers that have been proven and no productivity out of the RB position has been seen.

So, if you take away, OL, RB, QB, CB, S and LB...we are ready to rock.

10M/yr is going to be the going rate for a top flight coach moving forward. That doesn’t mean that the man is a miracle worker.

You don’t hire someone new to do just as poorly as the last guy.

Then betting your trailer on over 7 should be a no brainer, which you have none of anyway

Put whatever spin you want on last season, the fact of the matter is that we have been ~.500 the last 2 seasons. Everybody in the SEC west has talent. 6-6 would be a a slight underperformance in my opinion, but much more likely than 10-2.

I love the optimism. But I think 9 or 10 is the ceiling for this team.

Talent is vastly overstated. The program was in the worse condition since way before Saban.
BK had to grab whatever 2/3 stars were available in the portal. In the meantime, AL was stealing 5 star players in the portal.
Lucky to have a roster with a 1st and 2nd team right now.
8 wins is an overachievement with this roster. 6-6 or 7-5 are more realistic. Anything above 8 wins is astonishing.

I agree. Orgeron really was a bad program manager. He made some poor hires, and his roster management was lacking, which left holes too big to win.
the team we ran out in the bowl game plus nuss and boutte was BK’s starting point. That would have been a 3-4 win team. 7 or 8 wins is where this team should end up. Which is a lot of improvement.
