It's amazing that when I was getting my driver's license, this and other cars like it were considered junkers for the most part and could be had for literally nothing (maybe not a pristine Super Bird, but a Hemi 'Cuda could be had for a thousand bucks or less in 1985.)

That's a godawful ugly car. I've always hated them.

Absolutely beautiful. My wife’s uncle passed away just late last week. His funeral was Tuesday of this week. About 25 years ago he bought a ‘68 GTO convertible to restored. He paid next to nothing for it but sunk no telling how much money into it. He made that car look showroom new. Did all the work himself except the paint job. He was into the cruise-in and car show scene and won a bunch of awards with his GTO. That car was his pride and joy. No telling what it’s worth now.

Maybe 1975. Not '85.

Granted they weren't a huge amount of money but not less than a grand unless it was a real roach with the motor gone.

I don’t understand how people say this is an ugly car. Its 50 years old. That thing is a work of art. $1.65M is no surprise.

Never liked the giant wing or the extended front clip of the Super Bird. They just look ridiculous on a car that was already large by all accounts, the Challenger/Barracuda.

I'd much rather have a Cuda, which is the same thing underneath. Or a non-vinyl top Challenger

The best part was the bidding action. Car was quickly going up through the hundreds between two guys, one who just bought the previous car for over 500k. Guy bids a million and the other goes 1.1. Old man just said 1.5 and ended it with the knockout punch.

Pretty cool car auction moment

My stepdad was a salesman at a Plymouth dealership in the 60’s(John T. Fisher Motors in Memphis). He drove one of those things home a few times as a demonstrator. Cool car.

He and I liked the Barracuda better though.

Good friend of my father had a Plymouth dealership. He had only one daughter, who always drove a new Cuda. She would let me drive it when I was 14 on back country roads.

Those cars blew away the competition on the super speedways. After maybe two seasons, NASCAR said they had to be limited to 305 cubic inches, and that was that for the wing cars.
