That’s broad brush. What if they are in a financial position to not care about increased price?

What if work is paying for it? What if a bunch of reasons?

If the auto market is worse a year from now then we will have much bigger problems in this nation than auto prices.

From the way things are trending in this country, we are definitely heading towards that direction.

Wealthy people usually have an aversion to wasting money. But I’ll grant that one. Just furthers my point though. The only people walking into dealers right now are the desperate, dumb, or those who don’t care about price because they either have so much or someone else is paying.

All A+ customers in the eyes of dealers.

I disagree. Say there is a couple earning $350k a year with no dependents. Wife wants to trade in her Beamer for a newer model and extended warranty about to expire.

Sure pay a few grand more than was hoping. But also getting offered a few grand more on the trade in.

You saying they should wait out the purchase for a year or two in hopes the market corrects itself? How much are you expecting to save in the long run?

That’s not an uncommon scenario. And they wouldn’t fall into any other categories you described.

Well then that would fall under the category of having so much money they don’t care. A+ customer for dealer.

Is anything wrong with the initial BMW or is wife just bored? If the second, that would fall under “dumb”. A+ customer for the dealer. If there is something wrong with it, that would fall under “desperate”.

Double whammy in this example

Currently driving a 2018 2500 Denali, I use it for towing daily and didn’t want to get caught with a truck out of warranty and unable to get a reasonable rental. I was offered $3k less than what I paid for the truck 30 months ago against straight MSRP on a new truck.

I ordered a Silverado 3500 High Country on March 15, the truck was built on May 10, and has been sitting in a lot in Flint Michigan waiting on a train to bring it to Port Allen ever since then.

My point is that even if GM gets all the Microchips for all those built vehicles, it will be 6 months clearing the backlog. I think it’ll be the 2024 model year before we see any inventory on new car lots, if then.

You seem really ignorant

I just looked it up for my recent purchase/trade in

I got 40% more for my trade in value then I would have gotten for it 2 years ago, and paid roughly 17% more for my new car

So why was that so “stupid”? If you have a nice trade in, you come out better off right now than before….

A few weeks ago I saw a report that GM had 15k HD's sitting waiting for rail transport.

that is a pretty broad statement, my daughter was neither desperate or stupid. Just squeezed into a tough spot.

my daughter waited as long as she could to buy a vehicle, she didnt have a car at all in college. That being said, she has graduated, gotten a job and cost of living near her work (downtown Austin) is sky high. So to find an affordable place to live, she has to drive to work. All of her college friends have moved away, most of the people in her office live in the suburbs, so she didnt have a carpool option either. So she had to buy a car

Some would describe that as desperate

I bought 2021 2500 Silverado 6.6 gas burner last July. It was headed to the dealership bought it sight unseen. Costco had a $1000 Silverado rebate at tge time and wife works for a GM supplier so I got that additional 3% off. I feel very fortunate to get the truck I wanted and about 4K off of sticker.

Gerry lane wouldn’t take any of the rebates or the supplier discount.

I agree, but some folks on Reddit the other day were complaining that dealerships are refusing outside finance/cash sales because they want you to use their financing. Wild.

Have not heard of that. Maybe it's a regional thing?

What I do know it is now common for dealers to add "X" amount to the sticker price. Our dealership sales dept lists it as "Current Market Value Price Adjustment".
The most amount I've personally seen was on a 2022 Escalade and the amount was 12k ABOVE sticker....and yes, an individual from out of state bought the 1 that just arrived + 1 more that was 2 months out.

Fair enough. Then revise your statement again. Stupid, desperate or household income over $350k. Is that what you consider wealthy?

What’s your income level that you feel people are “too wealthy” to put off buying a car for a few years in hopes the market corrects itself?

And what about the folks that get car notes reimbursed for work? And are required to purchase cars of a certain age to qualify for reimbursement.

Point is, there are many reasons someone purchases a car in this climate other than being stupid or desperate.

Nobody probably wants to buy this but there are plenty of Subaru vehicles available on their lots.

I might have considered this until the OT branded Subaru as the official car of lesbians

shite. I'd drive a Subaru. I'm a hard licker and like wearing plaid shirts.

I like the Crosstrek. Nice little car. I almost bought one three years ago but ended up with a TLX for only a little more than the Subaru salesman thought the Crosstrek was worth.

As others have stated, if you trade in the market can be beneficial. I bought a 2016 Veloster new for 16k. 2019 I was shopping around and carvana/carmax was offering me 8k for it. Now 3 years later they are offering me 14k. The CRV I was eyeing have only increased 3k during that time.

In Columbus Ohio almost every dealer has markups for 1-3k except for one. Germain dealers which has almost every brand, so there is hope for y'all.
