308. You can get Compact length or standard length. I’ve had a few Ruger Americans
Which are very accurate but,they are budget rifles. A stainless Tika , Ruger 77 or
Bergara would be life time rifles... any 06 would be standard action,but still a great choice of caliber. You won’t go wrong with either......
