As a resident of Lafourche Parish, I voted for Joe Orgeron because he was an educated conservative. I admit that I regret my vote. In the 2022 session he introduced a bill to facilitate offshore wind power, and he owns a related company.

His menhaden legislation if passed may bankrupt two menhaden companies which provided income to hundreds of employees in the devastated coastal LA economy.

All the commenters about the negative impacts of the menhaden fishery is speculative and not documented by research on menhaden bycatch and the implications on sport fish.

I commented on the proposed 2O21 menhaden bill and provided the available scientific bycatch data, and I was called an idiot, a moron, and a paid shill for the the menhaden industry. All were false.

I am more concerned about the impacts of the shrimp fishery bycatch on sport fishery populations and the estuarine ecosystem.

The problem with La is there is no give and take between Corporations and tax payers/residents. The corporation always gets the best deal possible. If the laws aren't as stringent as other States then La is still the best place to process the product.

Did your data report the miles of oil sheen and death they leave in the first current rip off the coast. Did it report the line of dead sharks or thousands of other species left to rot as one net is retrieved. Don't know where your data is taken from, but I have witnessed the disgusting impact from these vessels in fourchon. Its sad what they are doing.

Don't get me wrong the shrimpers are no better, they have crippled the flounder population in the area as well.

Blow it out your arse you fricking schill. Hundreds of employees? How bout the thousands + who
Flock to the coast- from in state and out of state- to fish recreationally? What about the thousands who sell boats, motors, bait, groceries, work in hotels, restaurants, and sporting goods stores who profit from thousands of “baws” who load up every weekend (or even occasionally) and go fishing for trout and reds? The financial impact of recreational fisherman dwarfs the revenue generated by pogie boats and the migrant workers they employ. You can frick right off with your bullshite about that industry. Especially since the defeat of this legislation will put a bullseye on coastal Louisiana to be gutted by boats from out of state as well as in state. You’re the typical special interest minority industry looking for special privileges to be paid for at the expense of everyone else. Learn to code, fricker. Your industry isn’t special cause your Parain or T-Frer did it. And it doesn’t deserve special consideration becuse it serves “hundreds”’of people. Find another line of work like any other industry that’s outlived it’s usefulness. The economic benefits of promoting and providing a vibrant recreational fisheries far exceeds anything these fricking seiners could ever offer. And to suggest otherwise is a bald face lie.
