One of my 10 y/o son's friends had a dad who collected guns, I have guns too, broken down and locked up. My son comes home one day complaining that his ears hurt and are ringing.

It took some questioning, but he and his buddy took some of his dad's guns and were firing them. I go to see the dad, none of the guns are locked up, boxes of ammo are laying around, dad thinks this is fine, "boys need to learn about guns". No safety training, no supervision.

I was unable to convince him that he was begging for trouble, he said I was an anti-gun loony. My son had to find a new friend.

I’m pro 2nd amendment and all, but people like this who have zero regard for gun safety should not be allowed to own guns.

frick that!

Yes, they need to learn about gun safety WITH PARENTAL SUPERVISION. And your consent. I would have lost it.

For us, our weirdest interactions are with our neighbors. Their son is maybe 1-2 years older than ours and just shows up in our back yard sometimes when he sees my son playing. Sometimes the parents know, sometimes they don't. One day he showed up and an hour or so later the dad came out yelling the kids name to find him. The mom had fallen asleep and I guess the dad just wasn't watching him. It's not that bug of a deal. He's a sweet kid, but I don't like being used as a free babysitter.

I invited him over for a play date on MLK day because daycare was closed and I had to work, so thought the kids would entertain eachother. The mask mandate had been lifted here, and the mom made her son wear a mask for 5ish hours while he played at my house. I felt bad for him. The mom said she was keeping us safe because they had been in Gaitlinburg the day before. I said I don't care, we've all had Covid so doesn't matter to me if you were around a bunch of people. But she insisted he wear it the whole time. It was me, my son, and her son at my house. That's it. They are also from Wuhan, China, so maybe it's more a culture thing?

Have you taught your son about gun safety? Doesn't sound like it if he was shooting unsupervised.

We grew up in the country and my 2 brothers and I had permission to shoot my dad's guns anytime we wanted.
