The CFB equivalent of Tom Watson losing the 2009 British Open to Stewart Cink (who never led during regulation).
These three things make it additionally more painful:
1. Kansas State was favored by 17.
2. Kansas State controlled the game, taking the lead on their first drive and never even letting the Aggies tie it until the final minute of regulation.
3. Instead of Kansas State, we got to see a Florida State team with their backup QB in the title game.
Although I think 13-9 was more painful for WVU than 1998 was for KSU, I think the 1998 Big 12 CCG was the most devastating loss for neutral fans in CFB history. It had all the elements: the sentimental favorite being heavily favored and controlling the game only to lose somehow and the team that benefited the most being much less appealing,

And K St finished #3 in the BCS but fell all the way to the Alamo Bowl when the Orange Bowl took us instead.

LSU losing to Arkansas in 3OT in 2007 was #1... for 7 days
I’m not going to lie, this game literally made teenage me cry angry tears. I mean, no lie, full meltdown. Few games ever gave me an emotional reaction like that one

The UCLA/Miami game was rescheduled due to a hurricane. Coming out party for Edgerrin James. 299 yards.

I would say The U being flagged against Ohio State in championship game. I’m not a big U of Miami fan but that was suspicious as frick. The game was over.

It should've never gone to OT in the first place.

Instead it sent Richt into some "meh" final seasons (13,14 &15) and it was almost another 10 years before Georgia threw that monkey off our backs.
Our '14 team was pretty far from meh and in the right frame of mine, could play with and beat any team in the country (beat
4 AP final ranked teams by a 29 pt average) And all that team had to do to win the East was beat an unranked UF team that had lost their previous game to Mizzou 42-14 (a team UGA beat 33-0)
Welp,we come out way overconfident, lay an egg and lose 38-20.One of our most disappointing losses I can recall in Jacksonville and the beginning of the end for Coach Richt.

I actually agree with this. At their peak, that was Richt's best team. When they were locked in, they fricked people up.
What that team did to Missouri was criminal. I'm convinced Georgia would have shut Missouri out that day if that game went for 10 quarters.

01 UT vs UF was the hardest loss for me. I thought that game was essentially for the right to play Miami in the NC. Believed that only UT with the ground and pound game and UF in a shootout had a chance at beating them.
