On airplanes, why is the luggage bin not specific to the assigned seat?

You should only be allowed to place your carry on in the overhead above your seat, not 12 seats down the row

It is. You just have to be man/Alpha enough to take it.

Why not have the bins on the bottom and the seating area raised a foot off the ground?

Because there is not near enough storage space for every passenger to carry a legal sized bag. They count on some passengers with no carrry-on.

Holdover from a forgotten time. Wasn't a problem when we were in a society and had decency

Just like with the neighbors wife, I stuff it in whatever compartment I want.

I see people put their carryon in a bin rows behind where their seat is. I’m like oh, you must want to be the last person to get off the plane. Assigning the bins would be a game changer.

Just have your husband put it up there for you.

You never noticed that there's not enough overhead space for every seat to have a carry-on bag?

Let me give you some advice. Never bring a carry on. It’s too much of a hassle. Just check your bag in, and it will be waiting on you at your destination.

I always put mine right above my seat and don’t GAF about where everyone else puts their shite as long as they don’t touch mine.

I haven’t flown commercial since, well, ever, but I’m sure the laypeople of this board can help.

It wasn't an issue until they started charging for checked baggage.

Lots of folks don't check luggage. They fill the overhead bin above their seat and then some.

Ban flight attendants from shoving their shite in the bins and there would be a few more for the rest of us!

Load the damn plane from back to front.

That way you are filling up space in overhead from back to front. No wasted space. When you run out of space, everything else gets gate checked.

They need to ban large carryons altogether. The time it takes to board and deplane has gotten ridiculous.
