Wade was a great recruiter and an average-to-below average coach.
This is said often on here, but is never followed with any explanation as to HOW he was a "below average coach." Can anyone actually explain their position? Or is this just continuous repeating of the same tired mantra?

quote:Overall, there was never really anything special with his coaching. Then there were glaring weaknesses like the trouble inbounding after a made basket in 2020-21 and stagnant offenses resulting in poor shots. And before you bring up offensive efficiency in previous years, he had some talent to make up for poor shot selection before this past season.

His rotation was always pretty short and had trouble handling things when one or two of the stars were out or in foul trouble / not playing well.

It really is one of the dumbest phrases constantly repeated on here by fans that just started following the team after the 15-1 start this season.
Once his top two ball handlers were hurt and we had Eric Gaines running the point, the team started losing. After that, Will Wade turned into an "average in game coach" on Tigerdroppings. It was shite posted by the First Cuck and StAugFLTiger during the season and once a few people saw it mentioned on here it's turned into a "fact" to other posters.
Nevermind the fact that he won huge games during his time here while beating these terrific in game coaches that have won national championships and been to elite 8s, final fours, etc. But "Will Wade isnt a good in game coach and couldnt make it to that level in the NCAA tournament." Even though he was only allowed to coach two NCAA tournament games at LSU thanks to the bozo AD we had prior to the current AD who made a terrible decision pre-tourney.

I've posted on this often during the Wade years. Off the top of my head:
- His players completely lacked fundamentals - no boxing out, no movement without the ball, poor footwork from big men, etc. etc.
- His players did not develop over the years. They had the skills they came in with and bever really developed anything else.
- His offense had no semblance of good coaching - no movement without the ball, no concept of spacing, very few set plays. They never rolled of picks. They never went inside-outside. They never made extra pass to an open shooter. His offense the entire he was here was: get it to the best player and see if he can make a play. If not, force a shot at the end of the shot clock.
- Time management at the nd of halfs was always bad - they did not understand when two-for-one was appropriate. They fouled at the end of games when they should do anything but foul - giving teams chances to come back - how many times did teams come back on Wade's teams and win after we had a big lead? He had no concept of slow it down, use clock and get a good shot.
I could go on and on. His teams did not do the things you learn in Biddy basketball. And they never showed improvement over their college careers.
