Tell me your civil engineering stories, reccomendations, and a scale of how hard it is. My nephew is starting at LSU in the fall in CE, trying to get him some insight...

Hope his grammar is better than yours

If the a-hole Moorthy is still there that is unfortunate for your nephew.
(Not the easiest engineering major but definitely not the hardest.)

I smashed 3 different chicks in the Germano center

Are civil engineers in charge of making all of these shitty Louisiana roads?

Why? He's going for engineering Some of the shite I read in professional emails is almost unbelievable.

Tell him to find the Germano center early on.

Its probably not that bad if he has a strong background in math and science and will put in the time. Otherwise, it may be tough sledding ahead.

Statics: all answers should eventually equal 0
Dynamics: moorthy
Strengths and materials: I-beams are crazy
Also, do you realize how much science and engineering goes into making a proper pile of dirt?

Not an engineer, was curious where the thread was going since I hear people shite talk LSU's CE compared to UNO's (you can all correctly assume where the ones that do the shite talking went); then say all other specialties should go to LSU. But, saw this and needed to respond:
I do. It's fricking obnoxious when you need to ask a relative that is a civil engineer a question involving dirt, spreading weight on ground, water flow...

Both are fine programs. I don't think one puts out a noticeably better civil engineer than the other.

Moorthy's constant cough and him staring up at the ceiling tiles will forever live on in my mind.

He had a cough for like 15 years

Civil is the most broad in terms of fields of application and what your career path could be post graduation. Civil covers structures, geotechnical, surveying, hydraulics, and wastewater.
All engineering requires pretty much the same prerequisites in terms of 4 calculus's, 2 physics, 2 chemistry, statics, dynamics and strength of materials. All of these classes are referred to as "weed out" classes where LSU weeds out the students who are not serious about engineering or simply don't have it.
After you make it through your first two years of weed out classes (takes most people 3 years), you then focus your last two years civil engineering specific electives.

Concrete is not that interesting. I would do something else

Civil won’t be too bad, and probably a lot more interesting than harder engineering routes. May get to work outside too. It’s a good choice of majors. I would tell him grades matter from day one. Get it into his mind that he wants to make an A in every class he takes…he won’t, but don’t get a C in a 2000 English just because he wants to be an engineer. All classes are important.

Yes - if Jai is still alive he needs to find him and show up with cash money for assistance with tutoring/test prep, etc. Jai helped me get through CE at LSU. Tell him to get an internship early....even if he starts out doing field work on a drainage install crew...or sweeping the shop at a construction company. If he wants to do consulting down the road....that field experience will go far
