Because of what they contain. Platinum, palladium, etc. are very, very valuable these days.

ETA: For example palladium is trading at $2,600/ounce today. Obviously street prices are lower than that, but it gives you an idea. I am sure they make a few hundred off of each CC. It is the trashy scrapyards and other businesses buying these that really need to be the target of law enforcement.

just a few years ago the big hot ticket item for thieves that caused everyday headaches for regular folks was copper... AC units were getting trashed for the copper inside of them

Let’s use the death penalty on all thieves. Not just the metheads and CC stealers.

Why steal only the cat converter when you can take the whole car?

Sketchy junkyards, etc. I'm not entirely sure, but there obviously is a market for it somewhere. The same type of place that strips stolen cars and other items.

They still have to sell them though. Who the frick buys used ones? If they are scrapping them go after them.

When I was in social work I had some clients that scrapped and those places that buy can fairly easily keep a check on this shite.

I worked for a builder at that time that still used copper pipes. We had to switch to Pex. Then they still would come to tear out the wiring.

The deputy shot two of them. Third one is on the loose.

A couple public executions might start doing the trick. All three should get the death penalty.

Like the pawn shops the criminals are their main suppliers. They aren't turning them in.

You are correct they aren't.

Years ago, maybe 05 there was a group of savages wreaking havoc for a number of years in Tampa Palms. My client interesting gent took pictures of all his stuff with a serial number. Savages break into his car and use the garage door opener to get in. They clean out his garage. Tampa PD used his pic's and busted the group responsible.

let me enlighten you. a cop is never really off duty. Cops are licensed by state and are always cops everywhere within his/her state.

Another Harris county deputy died last night. This one was hit by drunk driver.

She (the deputy) was a 32 year old army vet.

It really isn't safe to be in law enforcement in Harris County at this point.
