I met an elderly vet on a plane a few years back and thanked him for his service.

He told me it was the honor of his life.

I got the chills. What a fricking badass.

There's no rule here that you have to say anything to us. Fact is, most of us are busy if we are in public and in uniform and would rather be left alone.

If you have to ask, you may be a dumbass, an entitled ingrate, or most likely both.

I choose to

I am grateful for them actively serving for our country

If I have to explain it to you why, you don't deserve to enjoy the fruits of their sacrifices. Just to be clear, I am not saying if you don't thank them you don't deserve it, but not knowing why.

If you don’t appreciate those who choose to join the military to serve on your behalf, I don’t know what to tell you.

Yeah they get paid and all that, but it is still a choice that could cost them their life protecting yours and your family’s life.

If you can’t respect that then you are a special kind of shitty and they’d probably not want to hear from you anyway.

And no one said you have to say anything. You’re welcomed to keep your cock holster closed when you see them and not say a word, so it sounds like you just want to bitch about people who made a choice you wouldn’t and are projecting your insecurity on a message board.

I am the grandson of a marine recon combat veteran of WW2 and wouldn’t respect myself if I didn’t acknowledge the sacrifice of all military members, regardless of if they get paid or if it is a choice. It’s still a big deal in my book.

I get that. I don’t bother people in uniform. We’ve been running bad with wars since WWII I don’t want to distract anyone.

Korea- Tie goes to communist
Vietnam- loss
Grenada- morale scrimmage win
Gulf I- win
Gulf II- win
Afghanistan- loss

2-2-1 last five. That would get any coach at LSU canned.

I always considered it the polite thing to do. Just like saying please, thank you, excuse me, etc. But I'm also the kind of person that if I see someone shitting on an employee at a restaurant or a grocer that is doing a perfectly fine job given the circumstance, I'll thank them for what they do too.

It takes a lot more effort to be shitty.

This

It is a show of respect and appreciation, two things we don't have enough of these days.

I always tell service workers “thank you for your service.”

It gets a laugh like 50% of the time.

For real? It’s showing appreciation to those that do something that you wouldn’t. Especially combat vets. My dad served 2 tours in Vietnam and spent the rest of his career training troops that defended your freedom. I’m glad we hear/say it now because Vietnam vets didn’t until the last few years when we, as a country, realized the heavy price our soldiers paid so we wouldn’t have to. So next time you see a vet or active, the least thing you could do is say thanks. I hope you are in the minority, sad really.

Yet you are posting about it, you are just a dick trying to stir shite.

I did serve 6 years, I am quite proud of it. I didn't really like to be thanked I never liked being singled out it made me feel uncomfortable. But I did appreciate the respect.

FWIW, we pay taxes also.

I ask you again would you serve?

That's as much as I need to hear to know that you have some weird issue with it.
