Dozens of well-known leaders in Jamaica including professors and politicians are demanding an apology and slavery reparations as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge prepare for a trip to the former British colony.

The group is rejecting the visit of Prince William and Kate scheduled for Tuesday, part of a larger trip to the Caribbean region that coincides with the 60th anniversary of Jamaica's independence and the 70th anniversary of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.

quote:

"We see no reason to celebrate 70 years of the ascension of your grandmother to the British throne because her leadership, and that of her predecessors, have perpetuated the greatest human rights tragedy in the history of humankind," read a letter published Sunday ahead of the couple's visit and signed by 100 Jamaican leaders.

There are dozens of us! DOZENS!

Jamaica owes what little stability and economy it has to the British. Every descendant of slavery on that island is better off than if they lived in any nation in west Africa. 300 year old historical grievances are bullshite and not compensable.

I’ve been to Jamaica twice., once on vacation and once for work. From my experiences, Jamaicans are angry, untrustworthy people. While I’m no fan of the royals, I hope William told them to kiss his royal arse

Why don't you just send them a check for $100K and the rest of us, who had nothing to do with slavery, will refrain?

Or better yet, send your check to BLM and watch their leaders steal it for their own use? And take a pic of the receipt and post it? We'll hold our breath waiting.

Well . . . as VP Kamala's grandfather was an India born a plantation owner on Jamaica where he owned a bunch of African slaves, you'd expect that they would have something to say about her privilege and how much Kamala owes them but I haven't seen anything on that yet.

At least they aren't shacking up at some Ukrainian oligarch's house in Canada like Harry & Meghan. Wonder what favors that cost them?

Meghan was a known yacht girl before Harry. Did Red offer her up for a night?

How did a woman born in the 20th Century "perpetuate" an institution that was discarded in the 19th?

They do know slavery ended in the British Empire 190 years ago? Right? Unless I'm missing something. Jamaica has been self governing internally since before WWI

Say what?

One of her 7x-great grandfathers on the paternal side was a Scotsman who owned a plantation in Jamaica in the early 1800s and who was apparently spending some evenings with the gals in the quarters.

Her mother's family is from India, and I am aware of no claims that they owned any slaves ... in Jamaica or anywhere else.

TBH, England.France. Spain. … this is where ALL claims should be directed.

Not the country which freed slaves & fought a war which cost 100’s of thousands in lives.

Why are you blasting Plx1776?

I don't see him defending this.
