I’m considering buying a budget friendly LPVO and I wanted to get opinions from people that have used any of these. I like the primary arms reticle, but I am concerned about what I hear about the brightness of the illuminated reticle. I would like something that was daylight bright and could work well as a red dot style optic at 1x.

Look at Swampfox optics, the glass is brighter and clearer than others in the same price range.

I have the Raptor and use it as you are intending to. I think it's great, and the adjustable brightness range (11 different brightness levels) covers all light situations you would be shooting in

Did you get a first or second focal plane model?

First Focal Plane.

Looks like you're in S'port. I'm in Houston so I shop in-store all the time. Got mine as an "open box blemished" model for $250 instead of the usual $400. The blem is a couple of knicks in the black finish on the outside of the tube, no functional detriments. Great deals to be had for anyone who has the chance to shop in store at PA.

Primary Arms reticle is sweet.

Swamp Fox sells a product very similar I believe which also is highly rated.

Primary arms ACSS reticle is great. I have the 1-6 on my AR. It’s plenty bright in the brightest of days. I’m pleased with mine.

I had a couple 1 - 6 Strike Eagle scopes. Nice scopes, decent glass, The reticle is a little thick but plenty bright. They held zero from the first time I sighted them in. Solid purchase. A lot of people love the Strike Eagle and the Primary Arms ACSS. I don't think you could go wrong with either one. I had the Strike Eagles on a DD AR15 and the other on a SCAR17. I decided to get rid of them due to weight/intended purpose. The Strike Eagle weighs in at 18.5 oz. + the mount/rings.

Below providing you're interested

My purpose for the DD & SCAR changed. I have several rifles and pistols w/SB braces for close up stuff, love the red/green dots for those applications. I also have a quick detach 3x magnifier if needed.

The DD and SCAR are now used for intermediate stuff. I originally had a Leupold MarkAR Mod 1 (before the Strike Eagles) it bounced from the AR to the SCAR & later found a home on a bolt action 22 mag. I went back to that model being I feel it's an excellent scope for the price point as it checked all the boxes "for me." Decent middle of the road 3 x 9 optic that weighs in at 12.4 oz.

Trust me I wanted something sexier but couldn't justify the cost/weight knowing how much I liked the Leupold Mark AR Mod1 w/Fire Dot so now I have three.

Best of success LSUGent!
