Because the prices they are giving for used trucks outweigh the increases in prices of new trucks.

You will pay as much for a year old truck as you would for a new one.
Do you want to buy a used truck for 5-10k more than someone paid for it new?

I don’t know what’s funny about that.

I have a 2018 Ford F-150. I bought it 3 years ago used for $39,000 with 30,000 miles. New F-150's were $49,000 at the time.

It has 82,000 miles now and last week I got offered $35,000 for it on trade for a new F-150 that cost $54,000.

2 years ago, my F-150 wouldn't have gotten $25,000 in trade. So I gained at least $10,000 in value, while new trucks went up $5,000 in cost.

A few months ago I called a dealer about a used 2021 F-150. It had a couple of thousand miles on it. The price they quoted was more than new. When I told them that, their answer was "yeah."

Looking at it purely from an economic standpoint, I'd be dumb not to buy the new truck just to make it a used truck. If they'd just get another one in stock...
