If we go 5 for 5 this time

Then Kelly is the GOAT recruiter.

It would mark a difference in perception for our fans for sure.

Even 3 for 5 or 4 for 5 would be a massive win

If we get Perkins, Mathews and Citizen we are immediate contenders

And it's hard to put a priority on them, or at least on 3 of them. They are equally important in their own ways.
I've been thinking about what we're witnessing with this staff as compared to the previous 2 staffs IF we were to get all 5. And my conclusion does not revolve around whether Miles/Orgeron were idiots... or not. Or about horn dogging on greeters/blondes. Both Miles and Orgeron were, at a minimum, very good recruiters and somewhat poor strategists (as in certain positions and/or roster management).
I think the difference would be... again, IF if if... is that Miles and Orgeron always gave recruits 99 reasons to pick us but always left that one reason not to. And some, a minority, of the fence recruits took that 1 reason every now and then. Whether it was wanting Chase at DB or promising something they fully intended but couldn't point to a track record there was always something a recruit who was torn could single out and pick the bad guys.
IF 5 for 5 happens this time I think what we're witnessing is a staff who are painting a more complete picture to the recruits. The benefits. The path to the NFL. How they will be used. How they fit in with teammates. How they fit in with this staff. Etc, etc. I think it is simply a matter of not leaving any bases uncovered which seemed to be our Achille's heel in the past for these "sweeps".
Again... IF they pull it off. It's looking pretty good. Mathews is the wildcard I suppose.

Naw...I'm gonna need em all.
I can't believe I got roped into caring so much about this recruiting cycle. In December, I was fully prepared to just be happy if we got Mathews and Citizen back in the boat, and added a few lower rated guys that I could talk myself into being "criminally underrated".
I'm so damn gullible.

There’s 6 recruits all with CBs to LSU today correct?

Why is Matthews the wild card? He’s from Louisiana and has already been committed to us once. I would say both Citizen and Perkins are way bigger wild cards.

quote:Partly because of the fact he was committed to us once. The overall history isn't great. If you reverse it for Perkins does that mean TAMU is in a great position? Nah. Acknowledging the timing of the decommit with Perkins being much later than Mathews; and that timing does indeed matter.

Other part of it is the confidence, pretty weak as it is, coming from UF about Mathews. It's just enough to worry me; and it's a personal-opinion-gut-paranoia thing, not fact based I admit.
Put the two together and Mathews worries me the most from the standpoint of we might not get him. He's been a pretty straight shooter. But he hasn't fired his shot yet- UF or LSU. So I can only assume he's undecided as yet. I do believe, and want to believe, his visit to us ended that and he's just waiting on an announcement.
But I still think he's the most "at risk" one.

Agree. Perkins is the wildcard

Getting 6.
If we go 6 for 6 here I think that would strongly foreshadow a top 5 class in 2023.
Right now, it appears Kelly has built an incredibly strong recruiting staff (on and off field personnel). If we stick the landing in a big way on Wednesday, I'm going to be incredibly optimistic for the 2023 class.

It’s likely that none of them would start this year.

Kelly has already showed that he is the goat with the staff he put together.

Looks like it’s UF vs LSU. Perk said he really liked UF and Mathews has always leaned LSU. If momma wants her boy closer to home, hopefully that helps.
Moscona (I know y’all hate the guy; not the point) mentioned they are trying to see if they can play together.
Hopefully Napier/UF community hasn’t figured out NIL well enough (no idea) and LSU/ Gordon can get it done and the pair can play together, putting Mathews where he’s always wanted to be and Perk closer his momma.
