Maybe Napier should work on getting the top Florida players from going to Texas A&M, Georgia, and Alabama before worrying about Louisiana recruits. Out of the top 10 players in Florida, UF had 1 of them. Hopefully the Napier garbage all ends soon.

I said this a couple weeks after he got hired and was spending more time in Louisiana than Florida. If his whole game is recruiting La kids to Fl, good luck with that.

Don't know why anyone thinks this would be his long-term strategy. He needs to fill a class in limited time. He’s just starting to build relationships in Florida, while he has established contacts throughout Louisiana. The difference is that now he can recruit here as an SEC coach.

Rest assured, he will pluck kids from LA every year, but he surely knows Florida kids are the key to his sustained success there.

He can’t?

Most of his recent success here came in 2017 and this off-season, both during coaching transitions. When LSU is on solid ground, he loses more than he wins in LA head to head battles.

Pretty much every top player in LA is going to be an LSU-Bama-A&M battle. It’s not that Napier can’t get LA players, but I don’t believe he can walk in the door and win those battles here. Just being the coach at UF doesn’t get you there. He’s going to have to establish himself there and win the East to get TOP players that the home team and bigger names want out of LA.

I call bullshite on that.

I don't think he started off slow, I think he started off exactly how he wanted to.

Controlled and measured.

My God...it's amazing to finally have a coach again that can use his brains.

I also think Napier just doesn’t know Florida recruits and high school coaches as well yet. He mostly knows Louisiana. He’ll slowly refocus more energy on that state. At least for his sake he should.

Napier isn't going to succeed trying to poach his old stomping grounds. He needs to focus on locking down FLA schools.

No one is saying he fills his classes with LA kids. But he gets them, regardless, as we saw just last month.

And this is why lsu truly needs to focus on Louisiana first.

There are so many sec caliber kids here it’s ridiculous. LSU can’t sign them all if they wanted to.

Louisiana is loaded with talent. The battle, however, is not for the kids that LSU does not have room to sign. The battle is for the top-tier talent that LSU needs . . . unless it's a 3-star TE that nobody offered until a month before signing day.

Saban has had a huge advantage recruiting Louisiana as the Alabama HC because of the contacts he made as the LSU HC. That sucks.

Napier will have a huge advantage recruiting Louisiana as the Florida HC because of the contacts he made as the ULL HC. That will also suck.

It cracks me up that people still think Napier is going to come into Louisiana and take recruits that LSU wants. It’s never going to happen.

I felt the same about Woodward. Had Alleva conducted the search and we knew nothing I would have been upset. I was confident that Woodward would do a professional search. Same with Kelly. He's a professional. Trust the guy.

Napier is going to quickly learn the academic rigor at UF is different than UL and even LSU. With as many academic casualties we had under Orgeron’s regime, how is Billy going to coach up the majority of the LA kids he pursues if they can’t pass their classes to be qualified to play?

As a N.O. guy, I agree. Many solid football players have come from North Louisiana and I cannot see any difference other than population concentrations.

You’re incredibly arrogant for someone who has takes like this Saban has done well in Louisiana because he’s close geographically, has owned LSU since he arrived at Bama, and wins national championships every other year. It’s not because he’s buddies with someone’s baw cousin who can give him a leg up with certain recruits.

How you can even loosely compare Billy Napier to Saban in terms of recruiting advantage is beyond me. Napier is as far away from LSU as basically any other SEC school, he wasn’t well known or highly regarded nationally or locally as the head coach of a G5 program, and he generally can’t hold Kelly’s jock strap in coaching acumen. Saban is the only coach in the country who’s had consistent success stealing top Louisiana talent, Napier is not that guy.

It cracks me up when people take a nuanced statement and make it an absolute statement.

I've never been a fan of Napier. However, LSU has lost recruits, that it wants, to other colleges every year. Napier was the ULL HC for four years. He made significant contacts in Louisiana during that time. Those contacts and his experience here will give him a huge advantage in recruiting in Louisiana.

I'd rather have Kelly as the LSU HC, but that doesn't mean that Napier's four years as the ULL HC did not make him a far more formidable recruiter for Louisiana talent.

This board gets so lame. You can't even give props to another good coach.

Napier is a very likeable coach. He is going to recruit well.
