$1 movie theaters were the red flags warning everybody that the neighborhoods surrounding the theater would be murder holes within a few years.

Broadmoor in Baton Rouge

Ellis Isle in Jackson

But I watched a few $1 movies at each before the declines.

Rode bikes to the Broadmoor theater and saw Austin Powers. Snuck in Junior Mints and a 2L from the Eckerds that was right across the parking lot.

Leftover chicken and rice soup.
Dill salad from Costco.
Diet DP.

Had to leave a movie early at Broadmoor because a molded ceiling tile fell and hit someone in the theater

My mom still made us stop at 711 on the way to the movies and get candy to sneak in

I went on my first date alone with a girl there to see Arachnophobia.

I’m not sure if it would be classified as child abuse, but at 5 years old, I was given $1, a ziplock of peanut M&Ms, and told to sneak into different showings. Would watch 3 movies in a row and hope my mom would be there after the 3rd show.

At 9 I had a broken arm for 2 weeks before she took me to the doctor to prove it wasn’t broken and I should stop complaining.

Weird how she doesn’t recall any of it now that she’s a grandmother, and I must be misremembering.
