1958-2003 LSU 1980-2021 UGA. Will this kick start Georgia now or will they fizzle out.

Who know? But with the way UGA has recruited these last few years, they’ll definitely be in the mix.

This is their 2nd time playing for a natty in 5 years, and they were an SEC CG win away from competing for 2 more in the same time frame. Add on to them playing in the weaker side of the SEC and the way they've been recruiting, I don't see how they fizzle out any time soon.

Georgia has strong institutional support for their football program. They are not going down

I hate to say it but kickstart I believe, the way they recruit and the commitment to it, the monkey is off their back. But Nobody and I mean Nobody will be able to continue what Alabama has done. There’s is only one Saban and I’m not too proud or too stupid to deny it. They’ll be good from this day on kinda like Ohio St never dominate but never out. Kirby is no Saban but he isn’t O either.

Going to be interesting to see what the SEC does with realignment when Texas and Oklahoma. How will they protect Alabama?

I'm happy for Georgia. LSU's title in 2003 was just a tad more years in the making. That one was really special as it seemed like it would never happen again.

I think "kickstart" is the wrong word. I guess if the only measuring stick is natties, then maybe so. While natties have eluded Georgia, I still put them in the same category with LSU, Florida, and Auburn... meaning they've been good for quite a while.

Those 4 teams ride the roller coaster. We tend to trend on the higher end, but have our valleys as well. If we look at the past 20 years, the same is true for all 4 of these teams, but Georiga was always the odd team out when it came to winning the last game of the season.

I think they stay good for a while, but I do not see them turning into some sort of centennial juggernaut like that other team. Just a few years ago, many here thought Clemson was going to stay on top forever, but even they were humbled this season. That doesn't mean they stay down or average long though. They just have to ride the roller coaster like the rest of us. The average fan/poster is a prisoner of the moment all too often.

Would need to compare Georgia to both Bama and us over the last 5, 10, 15, 20 years.

Georgia may have just as many wins as us without the nats to show for it.

That is a reason I picked Bama to win, the biggest thing we had over Georgia was the national championships. Now that they have one, they're in a different level of conversation.

IMO, they really have to modernize the offense to have lasting success. They have a great roster, and they had success this year for the most part. They absolutely have to have a vertical passing threat in order to stay at the top, though.

Georgia was always soft.

Last night, they weren't soft. IMO they should be here to stay.

I agree with this.

Since the 1992 expansion, meaning 30 seasons ago, only SIX teams have won an SEC title.

Alabama (10, last in 2021)
Florida (7, last in 2008)
LSU (5, last in 2019)
Georgia (3, last in 2017)
Auburn (3, last in 2013)
Tennessee (2, last in 1998)

Coincidentally, those same 6 schools are now the only ones with national titles in that same time span, now that Georgia won theirs. To me, it was only a matter of time before they finally won it; very different from LSU. We weren't very competitive for a while, then tied for some SECW titles (no banners in our stadium) in the 1990's before finally breaking through with some SEC championships in the early 2000's. LSU and Georgia sort of broke out early, but LSU was able to win some titles while Georgia never made it that far until finally sniffing one in 2017.

Either way, Georgia is clearly one of the big 6 of the SEC in the past 30 years. Welcome to the Natty club.

I dont think Alabama needs to be protected. If they zone like they did with TAMU & Mizzou each one gets a division. I think Texas will be the one that needs the protection and they have the money to buy their way into the east. Oklahoma gets the west draw.
