This is not in dispute. It is greed. It is unfettered capitalism.

And the mouthbreathers at TD blame the Dems for this.

Just a few years ago, NASCAR was huge! Then they changed the rules, and then went woke. Now they are a shell of their former selves. I can see the same thing happening to college football if they keep going down this path.

When was this? 2003?

Fifteen years of gross mismanagement led to NASCAR having to climb out of its own hole, which it is doing.

Nothing woke about it, dipshit. Sorry the racist flags have been banned though.

Exactly. NASCAR grew too quickly and out of it's footprint. That is the long and short of it.

They changed their format and invented "The Chase". Ran off a bunch of fans with that. Then, the ones that stayed, were subjected to the worship of Danica Patrick. Fans left got sick of her being pushed in their face 6 days a week, then watching her shite the bed every Sunday. Now we have "Noosecar".

Again, fundamentally change the sport and adopt woke shite, and watch fans leave in droves.

somehow I don't think Random U offering a million in N.I.L. will trump the establishment in CFB which offers 900,000 and has more proven success in player development

Grey Goose,

Do you really think boosters weren’t shelling out money prior to NIL?

Let’s all be honest, SEC fans think a legit NIL marketplace will displace their boosters willingness to break the rule ms that other college boosters weren’t willing to do.

That's akin to obtaining booze during Prohibition. Sure you could get it, but when it was legalized, it was a whole lot easier! Answer this, does TAM sniff the #1 recruiting class without NIL?

I fully expect top recruits will be making their final decision on just how much NIL money is on the table going forward. If you don't think that's bad for CFB, you aren't thinking this thru.

You need to get out more. 17-18 y/o kids living in really bad neighborhoods aren't exactly focusing on "player development". Most of their family isn't either. You aren't giving much credence to the power of the dollar.

i still enjoy watching smaller schools play each other, sure they don't have the best athletes, but it's the same game, scores are close, and the kids play with HEART for the school they represent, i remember watching coastal carolina win that tight game against Northern Illinois and, first off, NO PLAYERS SELFISHLY OPTED OUT, and the team celebrated their bowl victory like a national championship

that's what CFB is supposed to be about

Yep. College BB was forever changed with the "one and done" rule". Those of us old enough to remember how it was before, and so much better. Now, schools go out and get a player or two who will be gone after one season, and start all over the next year, leaving us all to wonder just how special a team could have been after a couple of years of the same guys developing more chemistry and developing into better players.

I was in on a conversation in the press box at a NASCAR race in the early 1990s where one of their marketing guys said their ultimate goal was not to be the top racing series, they didn’t want to stop at that, they wanted to be a co-equal major league sport to the NFL, MLB, NBA and NHL.

That was insanity then and insanity now, but they haven’t dropped that idea. It’s driving stupidity like moving the Clash from Daytona to the LA Coliseum to chase the LA market. (If you haven’t heard about that, they are in the process of building a 1/4-mile short track at the Coliseum.)

To achieve that goal in their eyes means running away like a vampire from garlic from the lower to lower middle class to middle class primarily Southern (although in fairness they have gone north and west from the start) and primarily conservative fan base on which the sport was built.

And it denies the reality that auto racing can never be anything but a niche sport with a handful of major events that attract wider attention.

Now back to the topic at hand …

I'm no NASCAR fan, but I do go to Vegas a bunch. I was very surprised to find out, from the people that live and work in Vegas, that one of the biggest weekends of the year there, is when the NASCAR race is happening.

the NFL doesn’t need 150 farm teams, I figure a few will play in a NIL league and the rest will go back to normal

I don’t find it to be a slow death at all. It’s going to be pretty rapid if this keeps up.
