quote:This guy gets it. My 90 year old dad doesn't watch the NFL or NBA anymore, but watches college sports year round. He still thinks NFL players are kneeling before every game, and he cancelled the NBA over their allegiance to China. I never should have gotten him on FB, but he enjoys seeing pics & videos of his great grands. It's not my fault all of his friends link Fox News videos on his timeline. I do see the same type viewers weening themselves off of the SEC sports trough at some point in the future.
Think NBA and NFL.
He actually has the worst taste in TV of anyone I know. He has to be one of the SEC Network's most loyal viewers. He will watch SEC teams compete in softball, volleyball and gymnastics. LSU doesn't have to be involved either. It can be Vandy vs. the big ole Bama pitcher.
If there are no sports on, he'll watch the reality shows from Alaska. he's good with any reality show where people are working outside, like he did back in the day.

College Football is dying among the youth of today. They just don’t care.
I’m in my 25th year of teaching high school in a suburb of Atlanta. When I started kids talked about college football. Kids argued and needled each other on Monday morning during the season.
Now kids don’t watch, don’t discuss and don’t care. My son plays high school football but he and his teammates don’t watch or talk about the games. They have a favorite team but they couldn’t tell you on Monday who won or lost in the SEC.

Answer this, does TAM sniff the #1 recruiting class without NIL?

You can't see how NIL will and can irreparably change the sport? Used to be, a kid signed with a school for a few different reasons. Wanted to win. Wanted a good education. Wanted a spotlight in order to maybe get to the next level. Now it will come down to who can offer the best NIL deal. Schools with the boosters willing to shell out the big bucks will load up on talent, and those schools will dominate recruiting, and CFB, with average coaching. There's a reason why the NFL went to a salary cap a long time ago.
It’s been that way for awhile, only difference is it’s legal now.

Not that slow, will only pick up speed.

quote:And the "Rich" schools with the biggest boosters, will get all the top talent, year after year. Oregon has Phil Knight and Nike behind them. Think about that for a second. You are the #1 QB coming out of HS. NIL deal with Nike to sign with Oregon, and a bigger deal if you make it to the NFL. No brainer if you are that guy, along with the #1 RB, DT, WR, etc. Overnight, Oregon plays for a Natty every, fricking, year!
the NFL doesn’t need 150 farm teams, I figure a few will play in a NIL league and the rest will go back to normal

Fact of the matter is, it's legal to buy players now, and TAM is loaded with money to burn, hence the #1 class.

Horrendous call, official should be fired at halftime.

I fully expect top recruits will be making their final decision on just how much NIL money is on the table going forward. If you don't think that's bad for CFB, you aren't thinking this thru.
Grey Goose,
I think it’s good for players & I think it’s good we finally admit that “CFB” has been a semi-pro league for roughly 40 some years.

Playoff and worse, the playoff committee have been an absolute atrocity. It’s an embarrassment to the sport and ESPN has played their hand to perfection in increasing their influence and leverage - which oc has made it suck all the more. All that to say I can still enjoy it and hope things get better

quote:I still believe that you are going to end up with teams of prima dona's with attitudes that conflict with the team's overall play (looking at Rattler as poster child for NIL conflict). Once boosters see really expensive teams imploding or the NCAA sees schools with nothing but five and four star players and a $100 million roster, they are going to clamp down. Boosters will be more pragmatic about floating huge wads of cash, and the NCAA puts limits on NIL money and in-season transfers. Also, they need to go back to sitting a year if they transfer, unless they've already graduated.
It’s been that way for awhile, only difference is it’s legal now.
Hopefully,

Sounds like you're poor.
