I am Ok with Jones, Baker, and Carter if BK thinks they can continue the performance level of the last 4 games.
It appears the CEO finally relinquished his 4-3 base and Deronte put them in a 3-4 or 3-3 base with pressure. Jones is an Aranda understudy and probably knows the 3man line D's better.
I thought Baker and Carter held their own.
At this point if you dont have a splash hire keep these guys and reevaluate next yr.

chavis was pretty damn good.
You’re right, I guess I just made up 3rd and Chavisin my head. 2014 had an offense that could’ve won it all matched with previous D’s. Who was the DC in 2014???

The problem with O and Jones is that it took an analyst to recommend the blitz package. That’s when the defense changed

LSU was #4 in scoring defense in 2014. You might be thinking 2013 when they were #21. Still much better than the last couple of years.

Or the best defense in lsu history in 2011-12

We went 8-5 that year, finished 4th in the West and 4-4 in SEC play. The games we lost we gave up: 34, 41, 20, 17, and 31 to ND.

What you would give to be a part of that 8-5 season?!?!lmfao

And again to the point, if LSU DC is such a destination job then why did he bolt for A&M?!?!

God forbid that Brian Kelly make a hire of someone you're not familiar with.
If Daronte Jones really was as good as you think, he'd be fielding other offers like Corey Raymond and Mickey Joseph did. Who else is trying to take him off our staff?
I respect the fact that Jones is trying to use the bowl as an audition for the job. I think that's a lot more honorable than the way Raymond tried to jack Kelly up.
But nothing about that staff's performance this year merits retention. If Jones is really worthy of keeping, let him close Jacoby Matthew's and Denver Harris and Azareyah Thomas.

I agree it’s been much better than the past couple of years, but again, that’s proof that the LSU DC job is not as elite and sought after as we try to convince ourselves!

Because....O
nothing more

Again, it was in response to the “LSU DC is some elite coveted job”. You can look at those numbers alone and realize it is not the dream boat job y’all are selling yourselves!

Oh wow, so you’re one of those who can single handedly blame all of their problems on a single source! Nice, must make life really easy when you never have to face reality!

If you are asking why LSU was not able to pull big time DC's the last 2 years, the answer is unequivocally because of Ed Orgeron.
Besides the last 2 hires, when is the last time we HAVEN'T hired a successful DC? One year in 2008?

They also scored 0, 7 and 13 in 3 of the losses, while the defense led them to a 10-7 win over 9-4 Ole Miss. Overall they only averaged 27.6 per game and finished 76th in the nation. That’s not the great offense done in by the defense you remember. Again, that’s probably 2013 when they averaged 36 a game but lost 44-41 to Georgia, 38-17 to Bama and 27-24 to Ole Miss.

Contract dispute. Blame that on Alleva.

And looking back even though aranda was a great hire, the defense hasn't been as consistently strong since chavis left.

i have defended him here for years with the football ignorant crowd. we have had good to great DC's here from 2000 to 2019 save for the malloveto experiment in 2008.
miles to his credit with all his faults did a fine job hiring DC's. pellini, chavis, steele and aranda.
