So now we are shutting down all commerce in every area where there’s an elevated risk of severe weather in the next sixty minutes?

Well, yeah.

so....it's your belief that we should completely shut down all commerce over multiple states whenever there's a threat of severe storms.

...that might not be what you actually believe but that is what your logic would lead to.

I was trying to point out absurdity by being absurd.

On one hand, it's entirely too much of a hardship to expect or require a business owner to do a single thing to provide for the safety of their employees.

On the other hand, it's oh hell no, you can't leave and provide for your own safety either, we'll fire your arse. And we can't have a work stoppage for every storm that pops up.

Am I the only one who gets visions of slaves chained to a boat, being told to work harder as the storm rages?

It's like gun free zones. We aren't going to do a damn thing to provide for your safety and security, and we'll throw your arse in prison if you try to do it yourself.

ETA: My point was that you wouldn't have to shut down and all that, if you provided a safe place for your employees to go for 30 minutes while a tornado warned storm passed.
