Cartels are getting stupid. Once they start hurting Mexico's main tourism hub, they are going to catch a lot of heat from their own government as well as U.S. and others.

it ain't working, I recall circa 2008-2009? Mexico named some bigshot retired generalissimo as the new drug czar for the Cancun/Cozumel area and within a week the cartel kidnapped, tortured, and murdered him then cut his head off and stuck it on a pole by a sign welcoming tourists to Cancun as they were exiting the airport, it stayed up there for a few days

It has been frequently speculated and sometimes reported that the cartels launder money through these resorts. This seems likely to be cartels fighting over these assets. Might even be a warning from the cartel that was involved with the Hyatt property to the one involved with this hotel. Just an idea.

This used to be why the French Quarter had heavy police presence and low crime. Keep the tourists coming no matter what.

Current city admin is too dumb to even do that so…
