I’m amazed at the naivety of this post

Of course kids were paid illegally before NIL. Now with NIL, do you really believe the illegal payments go away?

Think about it

jrctiger84 is a commie. You voted for Bernie or you wrote in a real commie? Move to China bc this is just the beginning and LSU better be on the forefront of this. One day in the very near future players are going to be making more than the coaches. I can absolutely see a player getting a $500K NIL deal upon signing the LOI.

It’s going to simply be a corporate NFL farm league with players flocking to the highest bidder.

Should someone tell this guy that this is what college sports has always been? Now it’a just done in the open.

lso, how is that any different from the last ten years?

Its different because you can basically pay guys to transfer now and they dont have to sit out or anything. Its a free for all with no attempt at rules to regulate parity.
How is that fun? Have you ever played in a fantasy football league where about 8 out of 10 teams quit midseason, and there are only 2 stacked teams duking it out for the championship? That will be the new college football.

It’s funny guys like you who always use the “capitalism” gotcha excuse don’t actually have a clue what capitalism is.

Did you just come out of a coma? Deals like this have been happening since the summer. Every scholarship player at Miami is getting money.

There needs to be a semi-pro league for those with the academic credentials of...oh, say Julio or Lacey and then those with other ambitions in life can enroll and play for a college. The situation will revert back somewhat as to how things used to be.

I'm glad they announced this and bragged about it on social media, because it gives other schools' donors concrete proof that this is what it's going to take.

LSU can match this. But A&M and Texas are always going to have more money.

The key will always be how good your staff is at player evaluation. Look at the money wasted on Spencer Rattler.

So you mean there’s gonna be a relatively small group of schools dominate college football? As opposed to when?

For those who haven't seen the story, the University of Texas will guarantee offensive linemen $50,000 in NIL funds for doing charity appearances.

I'm not one who has felt sorry for college football players. They get free tuition, free room, the best food on campus, tutoring when needed, free books, etc. If they work hard and have talent, they will go straight from college to a job paying multi-millions.

Yeah.
It was far better back in the day, when out-of-state players from impoverished families helped programs make millions, yet couldn't afford to travel home to visit their family over Thanksgiving break. Right?

the transfer portal changes college football far more than the NIL FWIW

NIL + the Portal is the end of college football as we've known it.

Now. It may be arguable that it should be changed. It's certainly arguable that up to this point, the absurd $$$ flowing thru the sport with the players getting basically nothing has been silly. But, it's still going to completely kneecap college football as we've known it.

Maybe tomorrow's college football product will be better and more fun? I don't know. But, the NCAA is a dead man walking right now. I personally see a basically NFL minor league of about 25-30 teams that can sort of pony up similar money. They'll be their own league. Everyone else will be old college football for the most part. Conferences will all be dead.

It would be like if every NFL player was a free agent every year! LOL

There will be tons of schools in the country who, every time they get lucky on some 2 star kid that turns out good, he'll be gone the next year!

Absolutely spot on point. I still remember LSU getting a minor violation for helping Michael Brooks parents see him for the FIRST time in his final bowl game at LSU.

No doubt what was was fricked up in many ways.

But, I still think people that think this isn't some big change are in for a huge surprise.

College football is going to be completely unrecognizable in less than 10 years

NIL and free transfer is changing college football for sure but this idea is a sure fire way to ruin it. College football won’t improve if the best players go play for some other league…
