Meat Puppets, October 30 1989, first rock show the Varsity ever had.
I went to the R.E.M. show at the PMAC that night and there was an offer that you could get in for a dollar afterward with your ticket stub. I had seen R.E.M. a few times before and was disappointed in the show that night. However, this was my first time seeing the Meat Puppets and they blew the roof off. Fantastic performance.
The Varsity still had movie seats in place and there was no bar built yet. They had a makeshift lemonade stand-looking thing where they were selling keg beer.
