His statement about avoiding potential vaccine adverse events is objectively true. It's a fact.
He is also accurate when he explains his risk of death from Covid.

Not dishonest at all. What should his concern be if not death?
We can't eliminate human illness.
You are aware of that?
It's not unreasonable to have no fear of coronavirus which is a mild illness for almost everyone.
He can speak for himself but obviously he has evaluated Covid and isn't afraid of being sick for a couple days.
Bottom line, it's a personal choice.
If someone wants the shot or 5 or 10, go for it.
To not want this vaccine is completely reasonable and it's dishonest to suggest otherwise.
