MORGANTOWN -- West Virginia University has applied for membership to the Big 12 Conference and been accepted, sources familiar with the negotiations told The Charleston Daily Mail on Tuesday.

The Mountaineers would replace the Missouri Tigers, who are believed to be ready to withdraw from the Big 12 soon to join the Southeastern Conference.

West Virginia's entry would return the Big 12 to 10 member schools -- Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas, TCU, Texas Tech and WVU.

Mizzou is really fricking up leaving the Big 12. Bad for both Mizzou and WVU. WVU should be in SEC, better for traveling, etc. Mizzou should remain in Big 12, better for the conference.

That's just stupid. Makes no sense from a geographic perspective or a conference perspective. I can't imagine the Big 12 lasting more than 6 years.

About as much sense as TCU to the big east made when they were gonna do that. Not a terrible move to get out of that shitty conference though.

Don't think geography has anything to do with it... Think the Longhorn Network does. WVU probably is OK with it, just to get out of the BEast.

I figure the Big 12 will also add Louisville and Cincy to give WVU some nearby rivals.

shouldn't EsipN be bashing this move as the ruin of college football? or is that commentary just reserved for A&M? also, wasn't travel distances a concern for the big 12? I thought that Mack Brown cared so much for the children and travel for the families, this is beyond hilarious at this point...

That is one crappy looking conference. How do you sell the LHN with a lineup like that?

In other news.... look for ESPN to start propping up WVU as the best "get" in conference realignment.
