LSU-Texas A&M
Arkansas - Mizzou

Those rivalries would not need to be forced.

Could we get rid of that stupid "golden shower" trophy then?

it was more a jab at the forced rivalry of LSU and Arkansas.

and while Texas A&M and LSU have a historic rivalry, I dont think Arkansas and Mizzou have the same history though I'm sure the series would get serious real quickly

Yeah we have only played them 5 times in our history but like I said earlier we have had a pretty heated rivalry with them in basketball over the years. Between us taking Mike Anderson away from them and Petrino poaching a few high profile recruits out of Missouri recently we have not been on the best of terms. I definitely think it would have the potential to be a very good rivarly for us if they came in to the league.

Even though we have played A&M 67 times in our history we have never really considered them our rival and while LSU is trending towards a rivalry 20 years down the line I don't think it will ever get there if A&M comes in to the league.

I remember the Mizzou-Arky BBall rivalry, it was very heated, it could carry over to football quickly if Mizzou could compete, which I think they could do that.

Yeah honestly, while they aren't the sexy name, Missouri is the team that excites me the most about being a possibility for an expansion. There is a shite load of Arkansas alumni in Missouri so it would definitely be a fun time for us. I know a lot of schools would hate to drive up there but it's way closer for us than every SEC game outside of Oxford.

It seems crazy to me that you guys hate each other so much since you have never been in the same conference but I guess it's since you're so close and the state A&M schools originally? I'm guessing a fair amount of LA kids go to A&M and Houston kids come to LSU.

lots of LSU & Aggie peeps in houston, beaumont is considered Lousisana by some and Billy Cannon's kid went to A&M nuff said

I grew up being told not to like Texas.

Then we left the SWC when I was 10 and I haven't known what to do since.

If you are looking for market size increase in addition to the 25 mil population base of TX (with A&M) then the next best choice is NC State with the NC population of 9+ mil. Mizzou brings a population base of 5+ mil and the VT (metro DC) population base is also 5+ mil.

Absolutely agree, have been pushing NC st since the last rounds of expansion. Brings in market shares, great recruiting base and is one of the fastest growing states in the nation so those two strengths just get stronger.

Adding NC in the east is really the best option. VT would be great, but the marketshare is too small. UNC or NCSU would be best.

vt adds dc, richmond, norfolk/va beach, and the rest of nc (usc covers charlotte). lots of carolina folks root for the hokies in football and the heels in basketball.

UF already brings in all of Florida's market
Then why did the ACC ever expand to the state?

The addition of Florida State adds about 90% of the Florida market "claimed" by the ACC.

A point a writer on another site made was even though UF has a larger audience in the state of FL, adding FSU boosts the national exposure of the SEC far more than any other possible addition.

Like it or not, FSU is has a large TV following nationwide (similar to UM) and would be an attractive addition in negotiating a TV deal.

...well, besides Texas, of course, but I'm assuming we don't consider that a "possible" addition.

+1

Florida State has a big following nationwide, and they claim the fandomships of millions of Floridians, meaning that they do add a lot of the state of Florida and its tv markets. Not a majority (not even close), but a big chunk, and probably a chunk as big as the state of Louisiana.

We used to have a pretty heated basketball rivalry with Missouri. We haven't played them but a few times in football in our history but I bet it would ramp up pretty quickly. I for one would love to have them in the conference with A&M. Much better fit for us than adding an east coast school.

Also there's A LOT of Hog fans in SWMO since we're about an hour away from Fayetteville. Hell Arkansas even have specialty plates in Missouri. Pretty nice looking.
