Since it looks like the big boy conferences have concluded raiding and morphing, lets look at how some of the little brother conferences will react.

We know that the big conferences were making moves for tv money. This is not necessarily the case with the smaller ones. A lot of moves are made on staying viable and trying to keep/gain a bcs auto invite.

One of said little brothers needs to take a look at Southern Miss, imo. They are a solid program and would help legitimize a smaller conference looking for that bcs spot. If Houston and SMU are getting into a auto bid conference, i dont see why they cant too.

but you're talking about SMU/Houston going to a BCS conference, so this doesn't apply

USM brings nothing but a body to a conference. no market. no real recruiting edge. no fanbase/finances

they bring a solid program though

quit bringing up finances when i disqualified that factor in the op.

shite i was the number one person on here banging the "this is all about money" drum when it came to sec/pac expansion.

I think USM's best fit is in CUSA and to have that conference and the Mountain West winner play a "championship game" with the winner getting a bcs bid if it meets a criteria rankings wise.

I would love to see South Alabama get in cusa and think they would have a natural rivalry with usm, uab and tulane.

With USM, I can believe it if anything came of the word that Jeff Bower was involved in starting up the USA program.

UAB *should* be a rivalry, but it being a commuter school and the bastard child of the U of A system work against it. That's why the Alabama trustees, lead by Bear Bryant's kid, shite-canned their attempt to hire Jimbo as their head coach a few years back. Killing off attempts to make the program a success kind of hurts the potential fan base.

With Tulane, geography should make it a rivalry but Tulane has no fan base.

Unfortunately, USM is having one of its best seasons in years and still can't fill its stadium (the moronic rise in ticket prices didn't help).
