enjoy Missouri. It's not just WVU fans that think it's a bad choice... plenty of your own feel that way as well
And now we've come full circle to disingenuous.
The very fact that WVU's argument depends, in any way, on counting fine folks in Pennsylvania means that the SEC should not happen for them, ever.

if you consider "There are reasons the SEC wants Mizzou and not WVU" as pure vitriol you need thicker skin.
Clearly you did not read the response in context, nor his others. Pure vitriol, indeed; but I doubt he is a graduate from this school of such high academic esteem. And my skin is already as thick as it needs be; I simply despise lunacy.

And what, precisely, is it that you're claiming as disingenuous that I've said?

Howdy, fiercey. I'll have you know I'm the proudest member of the Fightin' Texas Aggie class of 2005 A-WHOOP!
Now, stop being butthurt. Mizzou >>> WVU. The SEC wants one of those and not the other for many reasons. Now go have a couch burning contest with Texas Tech. They will be your new rival

And while I agree with that sentiment as a matter of fact, I just disagree with its validity as a means of measure. It is unfortunate for WVU being in a small unpopulous state, when the majority of their viewership is out of state and that is being wholly discounted by the beancounters. Like I said, there are some unique factors at play with West Virginia as a state, primary among them the uniquely high rate of emigration. At any rate, enjoy Missouri. It's not just WVU fans that think it's a bad choice... plenty of your own feel that way as well. SEC fans are pretty much being sold down the river for a little extra television $$$.
Missouri fans have sat back and waited, for the most part, while WVU fans have posted negative things about our school and our state for 2 months now on every message board and blog comment section that would allow them access.
Its enough.
Rationalize the decisions in whatever way helps you move on and enjoy life but for the love of God, move on.
You will have an opportunity to back up all the yapping your fan base has done in a conference that is light years better than the Big East. Spend a few years in that conference playing that schedule and we can revisit this discussion.
Good luck in the Big 12.

Missouri is a fine university, I simply think Missouri to the SEC is a poor choice. There is a difference between that and saying negative things about your school and state.

Highest emigration rate among states. This is why the state population is at or lower than the level it was in 1940.
This is a negative, not a positive buddy. We want growing markets, not stagnant or declining ones.

WVU has a very large population of students from New Jersey and New York.
Does not matter. WVU is a small school and your small alumni base matters very little. It's the millions of sidewalk fans the tv markets are going after and WVU does not have it.

There are reasons why WVU has the #1 Thursday night game and #1 Friday night game viewership all-time on ESPN
Because you play in lots of Thursday and Friday night games.
I actually prefer WVU to Mizzou because despite your small state, your fans actually care and this is the product the SEC sells best: passionate fans and packed out stadiums. Long term, I think Mizzou ends up being a drain. They have mediocre fan support now and they are the best they have been in decades. Imagine the fan support when a decade of mediocrity in the SEC plagues them. WVU fans would at least still show up and irrationally think they will win the SEC every year just like the rest of us crazy SEC fans.

I find it hard to believe that a West Virginia Thursday night game gets more viewers than an SEC game, and ACC game, or A&M/t.u.

Like it or not, Mizzou is a better choice as far as university presidents are concerned - better academics, AAU, larger school. Financially, it is a better TV market. Football is probably a wash on average, but the debacle of a game in Morgantown probably really hurt any chances WVU had with the league. Honestly, I don't like WVU or Mizzou for the conference, but I think Mizzou makes more sense for the reasons above.

fiercey, there's absolutely nothing wrong with your defending your school. But, I don't think it's necessary. It is what it is. And, there's nothing wrong with West Virginia.
BUT, it is smaller, and has less value as a media market. And, most of the items you list are applicable to other schools as well. All states have students out of state, etc.
And, whether you think it's fair or accurate, that is apparently the way tv revenues are calculated.

I have not read the whole thread but, really, how many folks in WV have cable TV?
