8-5, 3-5 in the SEC. some OOC wins: wofford, middle tenn, florida atlantic. SEC wins over vandy, kentucky, and moo st. we must have different definitions of pretty good
SC lost to Georgia by 18, Auburn by 7, Tenn. by 7, Ark. by 6, Fla. by 1. Take a closer look. On the surface it looks that way but they only lost 1 game by more than 7 pts.

Damn. that wouldve been quite a message to the rest of the country.

No doubt. Florida is the 4th most populous state in the country, behind only California, Texas, and New York. The chance to basically have everything north of Miami is too good to pass over. To have the two big flagship universities in a state like Florida, well, its like having both USC and UCLA.
Moreover, Florida State has never belonged in the ACC; they are a natural fit for the SEC.
Moreover still, have you seen the women?

Yeah. I mean that says quite a lot about the strength of our conference. Who knows how well SC would have done if they had been in another conference but losses are losses and close won't get you very far. It had a lot to do with that year too. I felt fortunate that we beat SC in '06 and I'll bet a lot of other teams did as well. Especially Fla.
Llama made a good point though. I wouldn't be very happy with having Fla. every year either, not over the past few years anyway, but every year's different. Not having a permanent out of division opponent would probably be more balanced in some ways.
Back on the subject, it's comforting to know that A&M could be a possibility as well as VT or Fla. St. I would have preferred NC (which won't happen) and A&M for the new out of state markets. I think Slive knows what he's doing and I'm kinda relieved in some ways that things are on hold for now.

If you're talking about starting a cable network a la Big 10 and cable fees, that applies. FSU is a national program with a larger fanbase then VaTech. FSU brings in more total viewers to a network/cable TV deal.
So by your reasoning the SEC should have told the Aggies to take a hike, because outside the State of Texas I don't think they have a very large following.

I think A&M was still worth the juice - for what they could offer the SEC in the state of Texas (viewership and recruiting)
FSU adds appeal in Florida and nationally - clearly a bigger national name than A&M
One nice thing about a power move to add a major school in Texas and Florida is what is does to recruiting. SEC recruiting grounds were fertile enough and then they firm up Florida further and extend into Texas more aggresively

Does not matter. There are 25 million people in Texas, second only to California.
Also, A&M has 48,000 students and one of the largest alumni in the country.

Florida State brings a lot to the table. I think they would be a really good fit for the SEC...

Virginia Tech
Nice campus. Ugly football stadium. And the fans are so cocky. They still act like they had Fla State beaten in the National Title game in 1999.
