Big 12 to TCU: No $$$ for You--at least not yet

quote:

TCU will gradually receive full revenue in the Big 12, reports Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. TCU will earn 50 percent of the normal $17 million payout in the 2012-13 academic year, 67 percent in 2013-14, 84 percent in 2014-15, and 100 percent in 2015-16.

The Big 12: That's how they roll.

seems reasonable to me, unsure why this would make one go roll on the ground laughing.

Me too, but simple minds are easily amused.

The Big 12 and its beat writers have spent gallons of ink lately touting "equal revenue sharing" for stability. Now this.

A&M's not an SEC member, and won't be treated by SEC fans as a member for a long time. But the Conference? The SEC's offer is for full and complete financial SEC membership from the day we join in 2012.

That is professional, and that is how the SEC chose to operate--as opposed to the Big 12's "K-Mart" approach.

Is the ACC only sharing partial revenues with Syracuse and Pitt? Is the SEC only sharing partial revenues with A&M? Did the Big 10 only share partial revenues with Nebraska? Did the Pac 12 only share partial revenues with Colorado and Utah?

Might have something to do with it..

I don't believe Utah is getting equal revenue right out of the gate in the Pac-10.

If that's true, then the Big XII's move makes sense.. Utah and TCU are pretty comparable programs in football. Kind of a bitch slap to those programs though...

Seems reasonable. A sort of freshman hazing for joining the fraternity.

It also immediately makes TCU a 2nd class citizen in a conference that almost imploded over a power struggle (and would have if the big powers had a soft spot to land).

Just goes to show that adding TCU was sort of a last ditch effort. No way would you tell someone they wont be making their full share until four years later if they were truly desirable.

Yep after a quick search it looks like Utah is being phased in over a three year period before they get a full share of the Pac-12 revenue. Definitely seems ridiculous but I guess that will be the new thing to do for non-AQ guys being brough in going forward.

Everyone criticizing this has no idea what they are talking about. Nebraska isn't getting a full share. Colorado isn't getting a full share. Utah isn't getting a full share. I haven't heard about A&M or Syracuse and Pitt, but I'd bet Syracuse and Pitt aren't though A&M might get a full share off the back. This is standard operating procedure.

Have fun in the Big 12, Frog. Have fun in the Big 12.

Nebraska had to "Buy In" to the B1G Ten network over time to compensate those schools for their investment and risk.

No such entity or situation exists in the Big 12. Either Texas is just trying to haze y'all and make you subservient from Jump Street, or TCU is paying part of A&M's exit fee

Thanks. We look forward to winning bowl games more frequently than A&M's pace of once a decade.

Actually, phased in revenue is used in place of a conference buy in and that has nothing to do with whether there's a conference TV network, but go ahead and keep pulling things out of thin air.

A&M has won 24 straight over TCU.

A&M will be financially paying their freight in the SEC, costing the existing SEC schools nothing and getting a full membership and payout from day one.

But you keep spinning. TCU will need your help once it has to start playing more than one or two real teams a year.

You might have to wait a long time for that.

Arky still gets a lot of "SWC flak" and it was only a few months ago where someone on the SECR was saying would we have been better off staying in the ACC. With that said 20 years later there is a new generation of kids in these schools that knows nothing but an SEC with Arky and SC. If nothing else the rest of the SEC will just have to get used to it.

Arky has always been SEC to me. So I'm sure my kids one day will think the same of aTm.

Great job pulling more shite out of thin air. They've actually won 10 straight, and have refused to schedule us since the SWC breakup. They played us in 2001 in their last bowl win in the first game that Patterson was head coach, but have refused to schedule us since. Why is that? It probably has something to do with the fact that y'all haven't had a team capable of winning a bowl game in a decade, but you go ahead and keep touting things that happened in the 1990s while y'all shy away from a challenge.
