A&M getting some disrespect on this board?

I have seen some snide comments about Texas A&M and whether they would add, or subtract, to the SEC in football. It seems many of you are judging them simply on their current state. That's a mistake.
As any LSU fan should know, football success goes in cycles. Texas A&M is enduring right now what we endured for most of the '90s. It's what Florida endured for the '80s. It's what Alabama endured for the much of the past 30 years. Hell, it's what Texas endured for the '90s as well.
For the 15 years from 1985 until 2000, Texas A&M finished in the Top 25 a total of 13 times. The Aggies and LSU had a great rivalry during the early part of this period and many LSU fans at the time considered them our top rival.
The SEC would be a tonic for A&M. It would set them apart. Give Texas recruits a valid reason to pick College State over Austin (or Norman).
Texas A&M is a huge school with a loyal following in a talent-rich state with a long-standing tradition. They are exactly what we want.
I predict that if Texas A&M joins the SEC and Texas joins the Pac-10, the Aggies will be above the Longhorns in 5 years. They were already above them for a good portion of the past 30 years, being in the same conference. Being in the SEC will only help.

Agreed. Even if Sherman turns out not to be the best coach for the job, look at the following potential advertisement for his successor:
WANTED: Experienced D1 Football Coach for tradition rich Texas-based program with SEC affiliation.

If you think you're seeing "snide" comments regarding the aggies now, just wait and see what they get should they actually JOIN the SEC.
It will be brutal.

Good article on this subject by a Dawg Blogger...
What Sort of Tradition Would Texas A&M Bring to the SEC?

Yes, too many people it seems have no knowledge of college football prior to 2000.

If all you think Arkansas gets owned by being in the SEC then the Aggies will really be getting owned by being in the SEC.

Our program is at a FRAN-tastic low right now, but historically we are a top 15-20 program in just about every category, we simply reside 90 miles away from a historical top 5-10 program that is currently enjoying an incredibly successful run. Make no mistake, we as a fan base (at least most of us) are under no delusions that the road back to football relevance gets easier by going to the SEC, but it sure as HELL gets a lot more interesting, IMHO.
As a program we have the resources (read: fan base, recruiting area, alumni base, etc) to be a competitive addition to the SEC; a move to the SEC, while separating ourselves from texas, feels to most of us as a good step in the right direction to re-make our brand so to speak. It would be, however, just a step, we must then see if we have the proper coach in place (for the record I am a fan of our current coach, this year will be VERY telling in that regard) and continue to improve our recruiting.
That’s my two cents, that and seven dollars will get you a cup of joe at starbucks…

It's their weird traditions.
Like squeezing their nuts to get loud for a big play:
Aggie Nut Squeeze
Whatever, they are Aggies. We have Gumps and Barners, why not some more freaks?!
