WHat Should Les Do vs What Would You Do
It is time for Coach to follow his heart. Money is probably not an issue any more and if his dream job is to coach Michigan then he should go. Recruiting, returning players, etc should be secondary to fulfilling a dream. It is now or never and that is his dilemma(sp). Since day one the administration and everyone on this board has known that he had a clause put in his contract to allow him to leave for Michigan.
If it were me, I would go. It is home. I have been in Texas since graduation from LSU (79) and hope to return home to Louisiana some day (soon).

If it were me, and I had a chance to come home to LSU from, say, Michigan. I'd be coming home to LSU. Especially if the money was at least in the same ballpark.
But, hey it gets cold up there. maybe Lester likes to wear shorts at Christmas and eat boudin balls.

I can find little logic outside of being a UM grad that would influence a sane man to leave the glut of young talent at LSU for a floundering program like UM's.
I would think Les is using the UM bullet to improve his bargaining position with JA/LSU.

Les already has accomplished as much as anyone else has at LSU, national title, the 62-17 record, continued the great recruiting. His alma mater is a mess now and its probably his last chance to coach there at his age. If he turns around Michigan then he would be a legend at two schools.

Which is why I think he's gone.

Yes, but does he want to deal with a rebuilding project at this stage in his career?

If the money is comparable I'd leave to coach LSU in a second. That's why I'm pretty sure he's gone.
He's a huge Michigan fan and has a chance to bring them back.

Slow ya roll champ. He's not a legend quite yet. He's been a damn fine coach, but he didn't exactly build the empire we have now. He's continued the excellence. If he stays around for another 5-10 years with that type of success, maybe a legend.
I'd say right now he's one of the more polarizing figures in LSU history, but I wouldn't say legend quite yet.

Les should go to Michigan. If he doesn't at least repeat this season next year the fan base will be calling for his head.
I would stay at LSU and try to become a legend like Bowden or Bear. 1 more NC and he would own LSU.

I was reading mlive and it seems most UM fans want Hoke. Not suprised at all to see all the Bama fans on there pushing Miles to leave LSU and go to UM. LOL

Chicken haven't we learned that trying to figure out what a coach who throws with 6 seconds left in field goal range is going do is fruitless

Pretty close to the same age as Saban when he was alledgedly rebuilding Bama

I am a little older, but at this point in my career, "projects" are what keep me going. Maintaining the status quo does not create enough of a challenge. It seems like when Coach Miles took over Okie St. they were in disarray and he brought them back to respectability.
Bottom line in my opinion, if Michigan is "it", then he should go.
Just for the record, I want him to stay.

I think it's a dream vs. reality situation.
In his dreams, I'm sure Les Miles has pictured this exact scenerio: Michigan, desperate, laying the money at his feet to go there and bring the football program back to greatness. And in this dream, Les does this...taking them to a National Title within a couple of years.
However, reality is that Michigan is a hot mess in a conference that has been exhibiting signs of weakness. In reality, he has a loaded team in a conference scheduled to play in it's 5 Title game in a row. The money is plentiful, and a another National Title could be just around the corner with a competent OC.
So, is Les a dreamer or a realist?
But we're about to find out.

Would you leave 1990s Florida, Nebraska, Florida State? --> to Coach 1990s LSU???
LSU and MI are not Apples to Apples. MI is a shite state with zero economy, its capital city is a war zone/ghetto, its recruiting base is not what it once was...the list can go on forever.
Miles will get canned in 4 years if he goes to Michigan and Lloyd Carr will hand him his walking papers with a shite-eating-grin. If I am Miles, I would not want my greatest detractor giving me the big Donald Trump..."You're Fired".

Michigan is not was it was in the 70's-80's. It is currently a government welfare state. I sure his kids will just love it up there. He will stay unLes he feels he does not have a vote of confidence here at LSU because of all the insane Leshaters.

Rebuilding project may be attractive - ala Florida, Georgia, Texas, etc.
Michigan is much more than a project, it's a bottomless pit that's going to chew up a few more coaches - ala Notre Dame

Texas and Florida not really rebuilding. Michigan is more of a rebuilding situation, but it is one of the more respected programs in the country.
There is an old saying "It is better to have tried and failed than to have never tried at all".
I wish Coach Miles the best as he ponders his decision.
And by the way, I have heard that his kids don't want to move. FYI-they never do!!
