nobody's claimed that. but we are happy with our coach and direction of our program.

you don't visit the SEC rant then

yeah i do. nobody claims arkansas is the best program in the nation. the preseason prediction thread was bumped, and almost all Hog fans predicted 9-3 or 10-2.

HawgAlude is the biggest sunshine pumper, and preseason his prediction was "Arkansas will finish near the top of the SEC and maybe go to a BCS bowl." some posters found that so outlandish that one of them made it his sig for the entire season. of course, he's deleted it now.

ok. i'm just saying, we matched LSU this year and ended 2nd in the SEC. You keep pointing to losing 2 of 3 as if it's a horrible stat, when really it still makes arkansas a top 10 team in the nation.

Arkansas and LSU have different standards. 10-2 while looking pressing throughout the year is a GREAT season for Arkansas. 10-2 while struggling through some games is a Good season for LSU. It's different, different program standards.

Here's the thing: Arkansas isn't as shitty of a program as you're making it out to be. We've been to the SECCG 3 times since joining the conference, across 2 different coaches. That 3 times is equal to Auburn (until this week) and only 1 appearance less than LSU.

Until you win an SEC title, you are 4th best in your own division.

And no doubt the program is improving, but next year is the true test. Road games at LSU, Alabama, Ole Miss. New QB (although IMO he's the 2nd best passer in the SEC right now)

yeah, this is a great year for arkansas, mostly because of the BCS bowl chances. I would never say otherwise. That doesn't mean i think the program has reached its maximum potential.

4th best historically in our own division, true. but i never suggested otherwise.

just pointing out that we have, in fact, been competitive in the West. It's not crazy to think Petrino can win here when lesser coaches have taken Arkansas to the SECCG, and Petrino's already gotten us a potential BCS bowl berth only 3 years in.

Why is it ridiculous, where is all that talent, and what has it done since 2002? If it was one year such as LSU had in 08 you could blame it all on coaching or bad luck whatever you wanted to really. But they have been underachieving for several years. And they are getting pushed around on the field, they just are not that good. They are getting out recruited by UF, FSU, UCF, South Florida. LSU has gone down there and stolen recruits from them that would have ever happened 10 or 15 years ago. It is not what it used to be, now maybe Petrino could change that but why would he want to when he appears to be going in the right direction at Arky. If he wins in the SEC west he has far more prestige than in the shitty ACC.

Rich Rodriguez and Chip Kelly disagree with this. And besides, if he made Miami the dominant program in the ACC, he would have more than enough presige to go around. Everything in college football is cyclical. And he hasn't won the SEC yet, which is going to be much harder than winning the ACC. It doesn't matter anyway, if he wins the ACC he goes to a BCS bowl and people in Florida will love him.

Florida is out recruiting everybody right now FSU and Miami are taking the rest of the Florida recruits who don't go out of state. And don't look to closely, but Miami takes a good number of kids out of Louisiana.

I doubt Petrino would underachieve with that talent. Across the board, Miami talent > Arkansas talent.

"yet". only his third year (starting with a bad situation), and he's already got the team finishing second in the SEC.

... and he's very likely going to a BCS bowl at Arkansas.

i agree he would kick arse at Miami and probably do it easier than at Arkansas. the recruiting base alone is a big advantage. but his name isn't coming up for any jobs, and he seems happy at Arkansas, so it's all irrelevant anyways.
