he may be a serial killer or something
I think that's distinctly possible.
And to reiterate what many have said, Gus is not nearly as popular in the state as the OP suggested. I, for one, would be seriously disGUSted with the hire.

..so how many state championships has springdale won other than Gus'? and i don't remember them ever finishing placed in the national high school polls, much less being voted second.
not sure you know what you are talking about. there is a big difference in being just good and being top 2 in the nation.

Gus will split the fanbase much like HDN did. IMO, he used teenagers to springboard himself into the college world and left them after 1year because he didnt get to do it his way.

I can't blame Gus for leaving after coaching a year under Hootie Dale. Hootie D. had nothing short of contempt for Gus and resented him from the beginning. Hootie D. had to be forced to hire a OC in 2006 to keep from being fired. I think the reason Gus was hired was to acquire the Springdale bunch who really didn't want to play for Hootie Dale before Gus was hired. I can't say I blame them.

Does that mean Michael Dyer will be in the Arky backfield next year?

I completely agree but Gus accepted the job knowing the same thing, how is he purely innocent? He used the kids to further his career just like HDN used him.

Is Gus really being considered for the HC gig?

NO, has not even been contacted.

I doubt it, I think we'd have to mark 20 ppl off the list before he got any serious consideration.

..this was the way i remember the situation.
like i said, even for an outsider, it sure didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out the offense that arkansas ran when gus was there was not even a slight resemblance close to being gus' offense.
in the national eyes, it was a given that nutt resented malzahn. being called "high school" by your own coaching staff was plenty of an indicator of this. the national concept was, nutt was an egomaniac, and his ego actually ended up costing him his job at arkansas.

and a lot of people just want to leave that entire Springdale crew in the past.
...arkansas brought back mike anderson, and in the national eyes, the nolan fiasco was a much darker cloud than the malzahn/nutt show would have ever been considered to be, by a montana country mile.
a lot of people may or may not include jeff long. judging by the anderson hire, i'd think jeff long isn't one of those "a lot of people."
jeff long has a ton of national respect. arkansas had best keep him for the long haul.

I don't think anyone outside of Long can say for certain. One thing that is almost guaranteed - regardless of who is hired, there will be a meltdown. We can be a schizo fan base at times

Pretty sure he won't be the next coach...You know those "sources" that when they put something out there you should just listen...sources say "grand slam"
I think he'll be the Auburn coach before Arky...

...that sounds very logical.
i googled beebe/arkansas. i came back with two majors. governor beebe of arkansas, and a small town called beebe, which looks to be over 200 miles away from the university of arkansas campus. i think beebehogfan may be FOS.
