They are having a conference championship game starting next year.

Texas is going after Luck for Ad. That could be big for them.

If they get Oliver Luck then that's huge.. He will help bring back the Texas brand and will start the rebuild. As an LSU Fan I hope they don't because if they do that Herman to UT would be likely

Boosters can hope and pray and throw money as much as they want but at the end of the day, they don't know what factors Herman deems as a priority. Same thing that supposedly happened with Saban to Texas.

Dude just don't even try to argue with idiocy. He's thinking the Markxist approach to hiring football coaches is a winner...

You are delusional if you think LSU is a more attractive job than Texas. It is arguable that Texas is the top football program of all time and it is certainly top three. LSU is more like a top 10 or 15 program of all time. I'm glad we are near the top now though.

This whole Texas-or-LSU thing for Herman comes down to just a few points:

1. Is Fisher really LSU's #1? If so, I think we can get Fisher. If not, then Herman is likely LSU's #1. At that point, what UT does matters....
2. Is UT going to get out of their own way and get serious about cleaning up their politics? That'd mean that they likely need to change ADs to get away from a good ole boy booster/AD. They'd also need to get to the table with serious money for Herman *AND* his staff. They'd also have to be cool with Applewhite coming back, even though he left under a dark HR cloud.

If either of these are Yes, and especially both Yesses, then UT likely gets Herman.

their DC is Vance Bedford. he makes 800,000

thier OC is Sterlin Gilbert. he makes 900,000

i get that youre implying Strong is the DC. i also get that youre a moron. the FACT is that Texas doesnt pay their assistants the way an elite program should.

...because UT can't afford to let Herman get away. The fact that he's at a Texas school, having great success makes is a PR nightmare to allow him to go somewhere else and have success. So, they are going to open the checkbook up and give him whatever he wants (he'll be the highest paid coach in CFB).

So, with that said, what scenario do you see him going to LSU? He'd have to be willing to tell UT no multiple times with multiple huge offers in front of him. I don't see that happening.

Whoa, wait a minute. Top football program of all time? By who and what standards?Prestige? I don't think so. Winning? Yea right. NC's? Not a chance. Money? Maybe so but unless you're willing to pay a coach $10mil a year money is pretty much a wash. We have yet to see any school pay a coach a number that several other schools, including LSU, wouldn't be willing to match. So money hasn't been an issue for Texas or against Us to this point.

He doesn't have the resume to be the highest paid coach but Texas just may be stupid and desperate enough to make it so. We should never underestimate the desperation of Texas to get back to prominence.

They pay top 13 money to a first year guy. That seems about where it should be. They also made a 300,000 jump from the last guy to get the guy they wanted at Oc.

Hell Ohio State guys both only get around 600,000 and Lane Kiffen gets close to 700,000. Both those programs are more elite than Ut or Lsu.

If you think Ut will let a thing like Assistant Coach salaries be the thing that runs off what they think is their once in a lifetime savior coach, you are stupid.

Look, your whole point about Ut not paying assistants is invalid for one main reason. Those were Steve Patterson numbers.

Patterson was the worst type of bean counter. Even going so far as nickel and diming what coaches ate for lunch each day and making them pay out of pocket for what they ate. Patterson's cheapness was one of the main reasons Patterson was fired.

As soon as S.P was gone they bucked up and payed what they needed to get the OC they wanted.

They will not let Herman get away because of coaches salary.

Your right, I used last years numbers. They got significant raises after winning the national championship.

You are correct Herman is his own man and I would assume just a few people know what he is thinking when it comes to where he wants to go. Two of those people would definitely be himself and I would assume his agent. If his agent does know and you have to assume he does then it will get out as to where he wants to go.

[quote]Same thing that supposedly happened with Saban to Texas.

Saban's situation is definitely different from Herman's. Saban is at one of the top programs, at this point it is the TOP program, in the country and UT was trying to take him from that program. Saban is able to compete for a title every single year at Bama, so going to UT would have been mainly money. What could UT offer Saban that Bama couldn't.

Herman situation is that he will probably be leaving after this year because Houston didn't get into the Big 12 so Houston has to win out every single year to vie for a NC. So if he does leave, and at this point you have to assume he will with programs like LSU and UT going after him. He will get to cherry pick the best job he feels is suited for him. I sure hope it is LSU but my friend at UT has flat out told me this and I quote;

"We will be in the race for Herman this year and we will not lose that race to anyone, including LSU. We will offer him whatever he wants. "

So if it is a boat race with UT the only way I see we win that race is if Herman wants to go to LSU over anyone else. And if you listen to the smoke out there the rumors are UT is his dream job. I find that a little hard to believe being a Southern California guy, but maybe it is.

Too bad for UT, it's not up to him. It's up to Herman.

Thats a nutshell of the UT mindset.

I hope that is the case but if it does come down to UT and LSU, and my boy said it is a done deal with Strong after the OU loss he said that there wasn't anything that could save Strong's job at this point, if that is the case I wouldn't put my money on LSU winning. My boy said "we will not lose this race to anyone including LSU, that UT will offer Herman whatever he wants" If that is the case only way we win that race is if Herman wants to go to LSU and not UT and the smoke out there is that UT is a dream job of Herman's. Can't win that race if that is the case!
