CFBStats.com

So there are some main categories of STs stats on this website dating back to 2008:

Individual talent required:
- Field Goals (requires talent at kicker position)
- Punting (requires talent at punter position)
- Punt Returns (requires athlete at punt returner position)

More coaching/scheme:
- Opponent Punt Returns
- Opponent Kickoff Returns
- Opponent Field Goals
- Kicks/Punts Blocked
- Opponent Long Punt Returns
- Opponent Long Kickoff Returns

We should focus on the 2nd portion of that list and gather the top 25 for the last 3 years, see where there is overlap, then narrow it down to the best candidates.

I will do this in my downtime if I have any today, just for shits and giggles. Then Ponamski can read this thread and take it to Coach O.

Baw, you and me? We would probably agree on a lot of things.

Was just thinking how this hire reminds me of when auburn hired chizic..except he is an elite D coordinator. So..bad comparison.

Back to you...

Yeah I started a Joe Robinson Thread

He was stellar at LSU.

And had some strong units at USCe. Not always all in the same year, but he had good returners and good PK and Punters.

I will take the job. I got a binder filled with stuff I have learned from Frank Beamer and Urban Meyer

This is a talent thing more than coaching IMO.

Need to look at coverage, starting field position, etc.

Beamer's got a kid doesn't he? He's got to know something about ST if he coached under his dad.

It's in the Beamer genetic code.

A poster yesterday mentioned Ron Zook. I like that idea, but Robinson would be my first

That would be awesome. I don't get why every coach in the country didn't send their coaches to learn from Beamer. When I think of teams with great ST its always Va. Tech, OSU and Bama (minus fg kicking) that come to mind.

Beamer ball was fun.

I hate how nowadays it seems almost no one goes for blocked kicks/punts.

Larry Porter is coaching special teams at UNC. It would be awesome to have him back for recruiting and UNC is 5th in the country in special teams efficiency this season. Keep Juluke and have Porter help out with RBs as well.

it seems as if it would be easier with how they do the rugby style. I can't remember last time LSU blocked any kick

Oh yeah.

There are years where he had Pharoah Cooper and ACE sanders returning and was great and years where he didn't and they averaged 4 yards a return.

But I think he's a great ST coordinator overall. Give him LSU talent and that phase of the game will be dangerous again

Joe Lorig at Memphis should get the first two calls.

Memphis finished the regular season with the nation's No. 2 kickoff coverage unit and No. 4 kickoff return unit. Also 9th in net punting.
